Yes, there are quite a few scams about, but this is completely legitimate. Folks on this site are always happy to help.

If you have not done so already, I suggest reading the "new shoppers" area on this forum - it has a wealth of information that will open you eyes to the (real) world of mystery shopping. Thereafter, there is a link to a list of over 200 legitimate companies with opportunities. I do suggest starting with the "15 most discussed" companies as they are all larger and offer work nationwide, whereas many companies on the list are fairly small and only have a few, often smaller, clients.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
Hi Jill! A native WV'ian myself, moved to Kentucky, and then came back to southern WV just this year. There is definitely work to be had closer to where you are, particularly if you're in or near Kanawha. The capital has tons of shops. There are two dozen or more grocery stores in the area that are shopped. I'm down south, where I may as well still be in Kentucky -- so I have to travel a bit or wait for bonuses, but good luck smiling smiley I recommend the following as well as just strolling through the forum to see what you can see:

Seelevel, Maritz, JM Ridgway, Trendsource, ACL, & Conferro as a few that have shops in the Capital area. There are also a ton of shops in the Morgantown area. I'm closer to more along the way of going into Roanoke myself -- which there are a blue billion shops in that city, too. I'm also still not too far from Pikeville, Mooreshead, Bristol, Johnson City, or Louisville. Perks to being in this area is that it's cheap, but it is a two hour drive or longer to those cities. Can still take off and make a good bit of money if I feel the urge to travel and route again.
