It is real, but beware of scams...there are people might contact you out of the blue and say that they want to hire you as a mystery shopper and they might say that they represent an actual real mystery shopping company...and then it turns out that they are fake. In particular, beware of large checks and money orders sent in an advance of completing any work. That's a red flag screaming "SCAM" so don't fall for it. There is a list of legitimate companies on this site--see the link below for the "Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies" and that's a great place to start. Good luck!
