Shopping Scam?

I'm new to this group, but have been mystery shopping for close to 5 years. I just got a strange phone call and wonder if anyone else has had any experience with this company.

The company name is Shopping Spies, Inc. They send assignments by mail with a very large check. I cannot find them online, yet they said I signed up with their company. They don't ask you first if you have time to do the assignments, and their only requirement is that you have an active bank account.

Anyone have any info on this company?

Nope, never heard of them. Sounds like a scam to me, but it is very puzzling that they would phone you and evidently have some knowledge that you are a shopper. Does your phone record the number that called you? It could make for a very interesting 'reverse lookup'.
If they send you any large amount of money before you do any work, it is a SCAM!

As far as I can tell they have done nothing unlawful yet. If they mail you a check, that probably will be a good time to have a conversation with the AG. Meanwhile I would just ignore them because it sounds truly scammy. It makes me wonder, however, just what database out there has been compromised to get your name and phone number.
It has been more than a year since I heard rumor of a data base being hacked, but I suspect it has happened a few times in the interim and companies are just being very quiet about it.
I'd be very surprised if the scammers have not paid someone to hack shopper data bases to run their scams more effciently. The scammeres may not be good at English syntax and grammer, but they are not dumb!
