Seems I just can't get the MERCHANDISER out of my system!! (Especially at Walmart!)

Well, as someone who merchandised in 7 different Walmarts regularly for over 7 years, I had to chuckle at myself today.....did grocery shopping, and picked up 10 cans of Alpo dog food as part of the stash. The cans were of 5 different varieties, 2 cans each, to make up the 10 cans. When I was checking out, this very young, apparently new, cashier took 1 can, scanned it, then pressed "10 @" so that ALL 10 cans rang up as the SAME VARIETY....WELL! The ol' merchandiser came out of me, and I told her, "You can't just ring up all 10 cans the same...there are 5 varieties here, and this will mess up the inventory counts in the back" (I'm chuckling at myself even now as I type this!) She looks all flustered, and TRIED to undo it...but instead of just taking the one can she used, and scanning that back in "10 @" and subtracting the price, she takes all of them individually and starts scanning them in so she can scan them out! OUCH! When I pointed out to her that that wouldn't work, she then asked me, "Can we just scan out all your other items and I'll start over?" I said, "Sure", as I only had about 20 items total. So we did THAT, and when she finished, she STILL had $5.77 left over!! So I suggested she get a manager to fix it all, and while we were waiting, the customer behind me said, "I'll give you the $5.77 to just keep scanning." I laughed and said, no, and explained that as a merchandiser in Walmart, there were TOO MANY TIMES I would ask for an item to be scanned, and it would show something like 15 in the back, when there were none to be found, or supposed to have only 6 on the shelves and there were 42...nutty stuff like that. And I said, "If we don't get this straightened out, it could really mess up the counts in the back" CAN YOU BELIEVE I SAID THAT???? I haven't merchandised in Walmart in over a year, and here I am, STILL DOING IT!!! Anyhow, the poor girl was all flustered, but it got fixed, and she rang them up separately after that...HOO BOY! I'm done! (Those of you who have merchandised in Walmart for any length of time will understand all about this! ha ha!!)

My quirk is after taking an item to purchase. I front the shelf and start spinning the labels.
I can the resist the straightening these days because it often seems futile, but if I am shopping and something looks GOOD I always find somebody to compliment. I think they hear enough complaints so I like to let them know their work is not unnoticed.

Former mystery shopper, current merchandiser.
my bad...

What I hate at Walmart the most is that the ones around here flex product to fill in gaps when products are out of stock, but they don't change or remove the price tags. That annoys me as both a merchandiser and a customer! I have taken to moving items and/or removing shelf price tags when I notice this. :-)
