Disappearing threads

I do not know the answer but I have a hunch. The thread was, IMHO, irredeemably hijacked by a poster who was so often quoted by other posters that I suspect that erasing the whole thread became the only viable solution. In addition, even before the serious hijacker appeared, there were posts demeaning the OP.
The same subject, with far less invective, is available on several threads that exits, all with titles similar enough to search and find, I believe. (I have not searched. I know enough people who actually do make a good living at MS and have read the other threads AND heard their stories first hand.)
btw, I am not a Mod and do not know who is. But I also suspect that only Jacob could take down an entire thread.

I didn't see anything worthy of even shutting down the thread, much less deleting it. I mean a poster was a bit rude at time but there was no profanity or personal insults.

It was full of personal insults and of calling other forum members liars! The hijacker was all about making only negative and demeaning comments. No positive contribution whatsoever, IMHO.

HEY. I was saving that thread to read today because it's my day off. I hope it's not gone!!!!
There were posters in that thread that were really trying to help the OP and I thought there was some useful information in there.
BGriff..the OP literally called you a liar saying you couldn't know any owners and always negative about everything related to MSing. Having said that, I found OP smart and did agree with "some" things she said.
I did try to help her understand the layers of this industry, and did find her intelligent, although putting many down.

The thread contained a frank exchange of views. Although I disagreed with some points offered by Bgriffin I could understand his point of view more as the thread went on.

Agreed. Lots of diverse opinions. The only fly in the ointment was a random poster who started using the 't-word' because others had different viewpoints. Yet she didn't offer any opinions herself.

I suggest that we simply let it fade into distant memory.... I suggest that we let this one quietly fade away on it's own accord as well.... The next time anybody's behavior gets unacceptable, I suggest that we simply report and otherwise ignore it so that it can be quietly removed and forgotten.

I would suggest that name calling is not a threat to your life. Engaging in a name-calling war is exactly what we try to tell kids NOT to do in middle school. Report it. Let them be deleted. Move on.

I agree. However, the insults around here have gotten bad - and not just from newcomers. Is it too much to ask that we not go around insulting one-another? Should we not expect adults to be able to not act like children?

I only "suggest" this. If most folks like the nastiness, I'll be ignored and it will continue. I would like to think that the overwhelming number of folks would like to see it go away and I'm suggesting that the regulars on this forum take the lead, act like adults and not engage.

I'm just going to ignore that you knew exactly what I meant and chose to twist it around for your own ends.
That said, it is not ok for someone to start a thread complaining of name calling then do basically the same thing. Neither is it ok for someone to talk down to us like we are children. For one thing, damn straight it is ok to do a lot of things as an adult that should not be allowed by a child in middle school. For another, it is always easy to say "let it go" when you are not on the other end of the insults.
I actually found the concept of this thread to be positive even if the execution was not so much.

I never stated who called whom names. There were multiple folks who did so.

I do not believe I called anybody a name. I did respond to an insult firmly. That is one of the things I regret.
I look at these responses as justification for cutting into folks. Is that the intention? We have very few forum rules on this site. One of them is that we are not supposed to do exactly this. Why are we working so hard do justify the very actions that are clearly contrary to forum rules?
