$150.00 phone jobs

Anyone doing these jobs...I wonder how involved and how much they actually check your background.

I just did one. The involved part was making sure you updated the daily log and after each contact. I was only able to reach the target once because she certainly didn't want to be bothered with her job and it showed.

a nice $150 fee went sailing happily into my paypal for minimal effort.

prettygul1,

I received the email from CB yesterday evening. I checked on volition just to see if there was any info on this scheduling company. There was a small blurb, so I took a chance and sent her an email. She responded back with a contact website to qualify for the program. There were a lot of locations mentioned for WA state. I might look into it.

No, this started with a D.......thanks Cettie, I think we're on the same page.

Okay, CB said you must qualify ffor a home mortgage. I don't want any credit hits so I passed,
I did the $150 mortgage phone shop and had a target that wasn't good about following up by phone or e-mail.

The briefing notes make the actual job look a lot more complicated than it is. They spell out the timelines you must follow regarding calls, e-mails, and other contact.

Be forewarned, though, though the MSC assured shoppers that only a soft hit would be made to their credit, they sent a notice out last week saying some shoppers may find a hard inquiry was made. They told shoppers to monitor their credit reports and let them know if such an inquiry caused a lowered score. They promise to help fix it.

Given the fact that it can be hard to get a timely reply from this MSC at times, I would rather not have to go through that. I'm watching and waiting. :/

The upshot is, this shop could affect your credit score. If you are okay with that possibility, it's not a difficult shop at all.
Tech-savy, thanks, no I don't need a hard credit check, although they say only a soft hit...I wondered about that, gonna pass.

TechSavvy,

Thanks for your post. I thought about doing this, but with very good credit rating I would hate to have a hard inquiry multiple times. If I did it once, no problem. It is the three to five time inquiry that I'm worried about. It sounds very enticing.

I'm in the same boat. We worked our butts off to get a good credit rating and I don't want to jeopardize it for mystery shops. In the future, I'm going to be extremely selective in such shops.

My family is looking into switching wireless carriers. If I can combine a shop with a new service shop with Verizon, I don't mind the credit check since they're going to run one, anyway. However, since the whole mortgage thing, I canceled a smartphone purchase/return shop because we have no intention of switching to the carrier and the ping to our credit would be for nothing.

I know we can't divulge company names here but can someone send me the company name? My e-mail is jcbgolfer47@gmail.com. Thanks.
I believe the non divulge thingy is "MSC+client". You can do either one of them. I believe the mSC is Gfk.
Wrong, the emails I got were from another MSC, I don't work for GFK.

I am a bit confused because this sounds exactly like the GFK phone shops I keep getting e-mails about from a scheduler whose intitials were DD. If not GFK then who?

The company for which I did a $150 home mortgage phone shop was GfK. They advertised the bejeebers out of them. Maybe another company is doing them? I suppose different schedulers might handle different markets in the US, too. My scheduler had the initials CJ.

It is also possible that Gfk ran out of shoppers. So they have to use outside schedulers - hoping that those schedulers would have new fresh shoppers.
That's a good point, Anakin. Big fish, small pond! smiling smiley

In my opinion, Gfk screwed it up. They could have created 'fake' identities of shopper complete with SSNs and credit scores (I think one of the credit card company is doing that) then they may not have problems. Right now it seems many are reluctant to ping their credit scores/
I just finished one of these shops and hope to take another one when I can in a month or so. There was no credit inquiry. It was going to have to be a hard credit inquiry, so my scheduler told me I didn't have to do it. So just submitted my report. Nice $150.00.
I looked at these and couldn't help but wonder, if the point is to see if the mortgage companies are following prudent and responsible lending practices, wouldn't it be wise to use some shoppers that wouldn't normally qualify for this type of loan and see if the lender lets them squeak by?
Ours would have been that case, yet they let me proceed with the shop. Ours was to be sent to underwriting, which effectively closed the shop. The shopper can't report being self-employed for income on the application, so I had to say I was not currently employed and have my husband on as a co-applicant. Close, but no cigars, I guess!

thanks. It doesn't make sense does it? The purpose pf the shop is to insure that the lenders are no longer making risky loans and yet they don't want anyone who might be considered a risk doing the shop. I guess it's a case of not wanting to know
Well, we were risky for the loan, but it was awarded to me. The reason the shop ended at the point where underwriting would have to take place is, to proceed would have required our sending in our tax info, pay stubs, etc. The shop was only to continue to the point where the consultant either informed you that you were pre-qualified, would definitely not be pre-qualified, or that the application had to go to underwriting. It sounded like the shop was not so much about whether or not they were approving people correctly, but about the consultants' follow-up, thoroughness in explaining the process, and customer service.

The ones I got, you had to be employed and make a decent living working full time and prove it.

that sure lets me out. If I was making a decent living I wouldn't be looking for every penny I can earn by doing shops :-)
When I pulled all three credit reports, two showed soft hits. Above the inquiry section on each, it said something like "these inquiries are only visible to you and do not affect your score". I don't have them in front of me, so can't tell you the exact wording.

I'm still steering clear of such possibilities in the future.
Mine wasn't hit in any way, I check recently and there is no sign of any hit whatsoever. I'd love to do another but you have to wait a long time in between them it seems.

On mine, the inquiry was made by a different company than the client. It said it was by XYZ CO, then "on behalf of ClientName."

I'm pretty turned of by this MSC not as much because of this particular shop, but by the lack of replies to emails, because of the difficulty in communicating with them.
