Restaurant Shops

Does anyone know about any mystery shops for restaurants in the Houston area? I'd love to do some of those.

Thanks,
Michelle

Not in Houston so no real idea, but companies that frequently have restaurant shops around the country include A Closer Look, Bestmark, Northwest Loss Prevention, Restaurant Cops, Service with Style and the list goes on and on. In fact it is hard not to stumble over restaurant shops. Many shoppers don't want to mess with them because of the out-of-pocket to be reimbursed and no or very low fee while there is usually a substantial report.

Freeman and Restaurant Evaluators also have restaurant shops but beware, both are quite difficult to get your pay and reimbursement from and neither one has been paying according to their stated pay cycle.
If you use Jobslinger, you can set your preference for "Restaurants" and you may get more bites that way. I've done many restaurant shops for Bestmark, and although you do have to pay up front for the meal, they reimburse quickly (usually in two weeks).
Just tried to join Grassroots. They have an infuriating sign-up sheet that doesn't let you enter a zipcode, then declines to register you because of it! AAArrrrgh!

Kona Kathie
I had the same problem with Grassroots. I emailed them some time ago (a few weeks in fact) but to no avail.
I had a month problem trying to sign with Grassroots, finally found the right way, was accepted, only to find NO jobs month after month in my area...no restaurants in L.A. (laughable).

Live consciously....
Irene, Sun & Kona... I also tried to join Grassroots about a month ago and finally they accepted my form that would never submit. However, then it won't let me search for shops! They emailed me a shop that sounded good, so I went to the site to check it out further... of course, the site wouldn't load. I gave up. I'd be too scared to accept the shop, do it, only to find out my forms won't submit correctly.

I was just accepted for a well known rock 'n roll restaurant shop with Freeman... reimbursement is over $100 plus payment. Looking forward to that one. Has anyone done it yet? How is the questionaire?

Have you read the reviews of working with Freeman?
Hmmm. i've been doing this now for 15 months and have finally stumbled upon one restaurant that is likely so popular that I will be glad to get to do it once or twice in a years' time. Other than that, I don't see them at all.

Speaking of restaurants. Anyone want to give advise on how you get the timings for order & delivery of each course without attracting attention? I did one & used my iPod to record myself ordering and thanking the server when it arrived. Then sat & listened to a 2 hr dinner. Tips anyone?

Never mind. Beatlesfan left a good tip on a previous post. Duh. Losing it. Ha!

re timings; Split the timings with your guest if you can.

Each person has to find the method that works best for them, but I use a shorthand to enter the timings and quotes into my iPhone. I use an app called NoteMaster that publishes to Google docs.

These days, most people are on the phone at dinner...even at fine dining establishments. I don't necessarily agree with that practice, but it allows you to fit in at least. If anyone every makes a comment about me texting during dinner, I just say I was checking in with the babysitter.
