Income Source In Addition to Mystery Shopping

I am looking for some input and advice. Mystery shopping has been the main source of my income for the last couple of years but I need to make some changes and increase my income. I have divided up my MSC's and put the majority of them in a "back burner" file for the time being. I am working with my top 10-15 companies and checking them regularly so that I can have some income stream. I figure I can quickly filter through the endless emails I still get from the companies I am not currently working with, in case that occasional really good job comes up. I enjoy the freedom, autonomy and flexibility that mystery shopping affords and want to keep my hand in it on a part time basis. So, my question is this. Are some of you earning money with other forms of "at/from home" or Independent Contractor type jobs? I am aware of survey and merchandising work, so I am looking for something other than that. I checked into court researching, in store demo, virtual assistant, proofreading/writing and data entry. Have you had any experience with any of these; or others that I have not listed? Do you know anything about Project Payday? I hope its okay to ask these questions here. I don't think I'll permanently drop MS'ing but I definitely need to do more because of circumstances beyond my control.

I do demonstrating for a company that considers me an employee, so I get 2-3 assignments per week. I have had as many as five because of substituting where they hadn't hired enough people. The hours are relatively short (if you have no trouble standing up for hours) and the pay is good. There are other companies that offer assignments like mystery shopping does. It helps to have companies that consider me an employee because at least they taken something out for taxes. I have to wait until I get my schedule before firming up my other events. Demo work is practically every weekend. For this company, I can go in on Sundays after church. The work is very interesting and I learn something new all the time.
crossmark is a company that i worked for... they do demos in sams club over the weekend... and some work during the week..

weekly pay and 10 dollars an hour... pretty fun... basically sampling customers...

Video shopping pay much better that most written shops. You can rent the equipment for a nominal fee from the MSCs until you are sure that you want to buy a rig for $400.

Check out Sunflower staffing and Market Connect Group.

Sunflower does that Bulls-eye retailer one Sunday a month handing out samples and coupon booklets. Pay is usually $60 and event 11-4 and they provide everything. Easy work little committment.

MCG does all sorts of things from in store demos to brand ambassadors for big deparment stores. pay varies from $11 per hour to up to $150 for a weekend event. Benefits vary from great demo kits with products to employee discounts on brand name clothes you are showing.

Both companies are easy to work with and flexible. You won't work every weekend so it is a great option.

Good luck with the job search.

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just forget to load the film.
Does any one know of companies that provide (to hand out badges, registration etc) people during conventions?

Buckalew Hospitality provides this service in addition to their mystery shopping of hotels.
from my understanding most people working at conventions are usually employees or volunteers of the convention...

Temp agencies, convention center employees and event host handle these type of jobs here. The entire work time is usually an hour or so and they pay is not much.

I shop mostly at two groceries stores in my town and I was at one this morning. One demonstraor was already set up and giving samples and a second one was getting her things together with the co-manager. Looks looks like things are gearing up for the holidays.

May not be a bad thing to look at.
A good start is to Google 'focus groups' and your city and/or state. Register. Different areas have different companies who offer - much like mystery shopping. My area has only a few companies. I love these things. I have 3 this month - highly unusual, but I'm not complaining.
Here is a website with a directory of focus group facilities:

Go there, search on the area that you live (and would be willing to drive to) and make a list of all the facilities in your area. Then go to their website and look for a link to "sign up" to be in their database.

It is similiar to MS in that you have to sign up - but it is easier in that you only really need to do it with facilities that are close by.

As Mert mentioned - this is NOT a regular gig. Usually they have steps in place to ensure that you do only one focus group per X number of times (on any subject). The clients do NOT want professional attendants - they want actual consumers/target groups. But they can be fun to do from time to time. I have moderated MANY MANY groups in my life, and I still enjoy it. Let me know if you need any further help.

It's a link referral pyramid scheme. Stay away.
Do these places only hire women? Isn't that kind of sexism illegal these days?

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Thanks for all the suggestions to date; keep them coming! I have a list of companies and websites to check out now. I'll let you know how things progress. I hope to earn a full time income doing various "jobs" in addition to MS'ing, as I really need the flexibility due to family circumstances (and the fact that I really don't want to get locked into a full time office job again, even if I could get one at this time......which doesn't seem likely.) I also like the challenge and adventure of trying new income sources; prevents boredom and monotony. If one thing doesn't work out, you can drop it without losing all sources of income. I've spent hours today just reading and researching on line. I have brain fog now, so I'm heading out to use one of my birthday coupons for a local restaurant. Its nice to eat out without checking names, descriptions, times, etc. etc. smiling smiley I have 4 others to use and some other bday freebies. Thanks again for the input; I really appreciate it.
I had a friend that had 3 part time jobs. She managed to make a house payment, car payment and pay all the rest of her bills. I worked for her.
@Lisa no they are just nation wide baby sitting services and like minded jobs... most mention females only...

probably 90% are babysitting... and its just a natural consensus i guess that people prefer women to perform such duties...

as it being legal or not i dont think they have to conform to EOE guidelines as they dont run the jobs they just operate a posting site...

and regardless of legal or illegal glass ceilings still exist... for women and for men...

Depending on your education, state requirements and tenacity, substitute teaching might be an option for you.
No offense but who would want a man to baby sit their child?

Kids like male substitutes. Some of our best short term contract substitutes were male.
Like any other job, my concern would be having the most qualified person and gender would irrelevant.

When our sons were growing up, I put them in several Red Cross classes. One was Babysitting. I think there was one other boy in the class. They dutifully let me photograph them diapering dolls. I put them in the class because we are not near relatives and I wanted them to know how to take care of their future children. They were told in class that many people do not want males to babysit because they see being male as more likely to be a child molester. One of the boys babysat a few times for a father that he worked for so they already knew each other and his children doted on our son.
