Strangest Video shop Ever

I have been doing video sine February. I had the weirdest thing happen this week. I went to the model to find that it had moved idrectly across the street. I walked over to the new model and see 2 guys and 2 kids chatting. Well when I walked in the guy and the 2 kids said their goodbyes and walked out. The other guy, who happened to be the sales person, did not greet me. I had to ask about the house. He told me that the houses were nice. I had to ask to look around, he told me to go ahead. I asked if he were the salesperson ( to make sure this was my target). He said "Yes." I then asked his name and he told me. Got it. That's my target.

I go and browse through 3 model homes that were right beside each other. I come back to find that the salesperson had jumped ship. He was nowhere to be found. I'm thinking, are people really this stupid. This company has been shopped since I started so I don't think it is anything new. He just left me there without trying to sell a home or even gather information.

In some cases it's not hard to figure out why the client wants the salesperson shopped, is it?

I know right?!. I felt bad because I know we are supposed to wait for about 20 minutes in the case you arrive and no one is there. But this guy just left. I sat for 20 minutes and then announced it on the camera. I called the scheduler and told her I did not expect full payment becasue I did not do anything. She told me that this is exactly what the client wants to see. It just so happened that the service manager was walking out of the old model and I asked him for the salesperson. He tried to call him on the cell phone but had no luck so all of this is on video. I'm curious to know the outcome of this situation. I don't want to get anyone fired but what if I were a real buyer and he just up and left like that.
I have no problems with people getting fired over things like this. Maybe I look at this a bit different personally. I work full time as a firefighter/paramedic, and if I don't do my job, people's lives are at stake. So I HAVE to be competent at my job. These people have to be as well. If they are not, I feel they don't deserve to be in the job either, and give someone who is competent a chance.

Now, minor mistakes, sure - they should be corrected. This is clearly beyond that, however!
I totally agree with you. I'm held accountable on mu job as well. And it's already a shame that some groups are stereotyped as being lazy and not wanting to work.

What surprised me was you thinking you would not be paid your full fee. Unlike your target, you did your job thoroughly and competently. Our job is not to make them look good or bad, just to give them an opportunity to do theirs. If the sales associate didn't care enough why should you? trey was absolutely correct. There are a lot of people in need of jobs who would be more than happy to take his place. If and when he gets canned it could actually work out well on several levels. He may learn a valuable lesson and someone else in need of a job may be hired to replace himwinking smiley

Most home builders use the videos to retrain the target. But, if the target persists in behavior such as you observed, then there will be more drastic consequences. You will be paid; you did your job. It's hard for targets to realize that we WANT them to succeed.

When we make an attempt and the target is not there, the company is nice enough to pay us at least half for going there. I guess I was thinking, he didn't actually get in front of the camera but actually he didn't even introduce himself.

Ah, but he was there. I've never done a new home shop, but my understanding is he would have to be gone from the property. Refusing to speak with you is not the same thingwinking smiley

Lisa is correct. The "trip charge" is for when there is not an eligible target on site when you arrive as assigned. If there is an eligible target who ignores you, it is a completed video shop.
