"A Top Shop": Payment Procedures

After a much delayed payment, I contacted the scheduler twice and then received a message from Chase Bank informing me that I had to sign up for "Chase Quick Pay" within 14 days in order to receive payment or I would receive none. The message indicated that I must have a Chase Checking account or know someone who did in order to collect payment. The scheduler routed me to the accounting dept. who answered as follows: "What do you want me to explain. We don't use Paypal at this time, we pay with Chase. thanks, Lori".

Rudeness aside, what do you know of this payment procedure for which I never agreed? Thanks all!

I hope that's not the case. I just completed some last minute shops for them which include reimbursements. When speaking with them on the phone I was told about when they would pay, etc., but nothing was mentioned about thissad smiley

Update: The accountant finally explained further:
1) they no longer use Paypal
2) my payment was so delayed that she thought this method would be faster
3) I asked her to cut a check instead
They owe me a substantial amount of money, too, and no way would I ever bank with Chase. However, it appears that using Chase Quick Pay only requires one party to the transaction to have a Chase account, and there are no fees for the transaction.

Appears to be similar to paypal, and does not require you to have/open an account with unknown entities.
Yes. It appears that way too and perhaps the delayed payments are due to the elimination of Paypal. I am uncertain as to what the regular mode of payment will be now. I was not alerted to this change, nor was the kind scheduler who routed me to accounting. Also not sure of the payment turn around time for shoppers at this point. I am going to wait and see how things shake out before I accept another assignment from them.
For the most part they are still paying by check. I don't know if they used PayPal or not, but they have been transitioning from Prophet to isecretshop.com and Quickpay has been offered as another option. I was able to schedule and complete some shops on the new platform with the help of Lori, the owner.

Neither. It's a kind of a new platform, like Sassie and Prophet and combines the multi-company job board. They also offer an iPhone app that I was able to use for reporting the shops. There was a little bit of a learning curve and then it was fairly quick and painless. You don't have to have an iPhone or use the app since the reports can also be completed directly on the site.

If you feel they are unfair, file a complain with their local BBB. Then contact the State Licensing Board for them, if there is one.

Strevel,

So far it appears to be a matter of converting from one payment system to another. I will be patient and wait for the actual paper check for which we finally agreed after a bit of back and forth.
I wonder if their reason would work with the telephone company.

I already have a Chase accout. Yesterday I got a card in the mail offereing $125 to open a new account at Chase. I know that it's a valid marketing tool because Ken did one last month and got a free $150 for opening a new account. It's a free account if you have at least $500 direct deposit but the monthly fee was low on ken's account because he signed up an account as 50+ years old. If you want the card, let me know and I'll send it to you.

I'm chasing reimbursement for a bar compliance shops from A Top Shop.

Received a nasty email from Lori last week.

The website's security certificate is out of date and visiting is "not recommended" by my browser.

A new round of emails just went out from A Top Shop offering the same type of bar compliance shops - BEWARE!!

I also had to chase payment for one of the storage shop. That shop required almost 3 dozen e-mails before, during and after the shop. It appears that Lori does not have good handle on shops that are finished. There were always one excuse or the other (my dog ate my homework variety). Lori was never rude to me. She would respond within a day.

Finally, I had to send her the shop confirmation number. I also wrote that we the shopper rely on MPSA affiliation, BBB ratings as well as Internet Forums to accept assignments. I had read that there were some issues with your company, but they seem to have been resolved.

I received my payment in 48 hours (but 2.5 months later).
How do you contact Lori - I too am awaiting payment for shops I completed through iSecretshop
Sounds like another msc to stay far, far away from!!!!!!

Boycott them and the shops will go unfilled with the clients forced to sign on with another msc, hopefully an better one too....
I quit them after similar treatment last year. I was into them/her for almost $300 in bar compliance and had to threaten legal action to get paid months after I was supposed to. I have seen so many complaints on here about Top Shop. She is burning through shoppers left and right.

Exactly what I was thinking too.

Thanks Kathy for posting this,.

If you edit your post title to start with "BEWARE" it probably would help an awful lot of us.

Arch,
I was just curious in the beginning because I have never heard of this payment method and needed to hear from fellow shoppers. Lori did explain later that she was using this payment method because she realized that my payment was behind and this would be faster than "cutting a check" She asked if I would rather have a check cut and I answered with a resounding, "Yes, please!" The check came a few weeks later.

Is this company still viable, offering assignments and paying shoppers via. paycheck or PayPal in a timely manner? I have not seen a posting in my area for quite sometime.
Unfortunately I cannot say they pay in a timely manner. In order to get my first payment I had to point out that I was not going to perform the next round of shops while payment was pending and was already late. I received payment in full right away. For the second round of shops after the payment was already over 30 days late I finally received a response that payment would be forthcoming. After another 2 weeks and 2 more contacts the money was finally sent via PayPal and the fee was passed along to me. I happen to like the owner and really, really like the scheduler. Unfortunately, 2 late payments and a PayPal deduction add up to 3 strikes, way more than I would normally give a company.

KathyC,

I never, ever shopped for them and never will having read so many non payment postings for several years now on this site and on V-GOD including the same issues with Freeman, Goodwin and Channelwatch--more msc's to avoid..... Too bad, they all have some decent clients, like that major drain cleaning company with the well known theme lingo....

Like I said, boycott these msc's, then the clients will go elsewhere when the shops go unfilled. Hopefully, to more ethical msc's...
