As I remember, they give you a few chances to pass the Silver and I think for 15 bucks it accomplishes a few important objectives.
Even though I had been shopping for a few years I still learned lots from the certification process.
I think the certification does show MSP's (Mystery Shop Providers) that you have a serious interest and investment. Might mean more jobs.
The certification also gets you into some forums that you can't otherwise get into. I have found the forums to be quite enlightening and amusing.
A little self satisfaction too. Bragging rights, if anybody cares.
If you can afford it, don't be afraid of it. If you can't pass it, then maybe you should think of something else to make very little money while beating your head up against a wall.

I need help. I can not figure out how to get a response from MSPA.
History: I bought the gold certification DVD course. 3 months later my 51-year-old spouse dropped dead suddenly. 2 months after that I got rear-ended and my car was totaled. I'm finally "up to snuff" and want to re-start the gold certification test. I tried to contact them and find out if I needed to do anything (start over, get another "password", etc) but can not get anything but an auto-reply (LESS than useless!).
What should I do?
There is so much wisdom in this forum that I'm sure somebody knows. Please help.

I have been offered jobs because MSP have got my contact information from the MSPA Certification list. It isn't hard and it isn't expensive. Some MSP value it, some don't.
Scribbles, I don't know how to help you with your question, but I just had to tell you how sorry I am for the recent tragedies you have been through. God bless you.

my condolences for your losses. those are difficult obstacles to work through.

did you complete the certification test the first time? did you get a certification number? do you still have access to the site with a username and password?

i'm assuming that you just need to gain a certification number, so that you can provide it to mystery shopping companies to verify your certification. is this correct? what is the precise obstacle that you're having right now with the mspa?
Thanks for the quick answer. No, my grammar was not good enough to pass the first test. No certification number (yet) either. My 'precise obstacle' is that I don't know what I need to do next and can not get a response/answer.
Tech Savvy: Thanks for the link for the Listening Post. I hadn't heard of it before. I'm not sure if they will accept my application to join as I was not comfortable filling out questions such as my certification number which may then be visible for all to see. I'm hoping I can join as I noticed there was a group there for Canadian shoppers.
I wouldn't worry about it being visible, for it's not like a SS#. It's how the MSPA admins there verify you're certified and you are who you say you are. Many people display that number by choice in their signatures on forums.

I just prefer not to have my personal information on the internet at all. I don't use Facebook for that reason. Once something is visible, it can never be removed since you don't know who has captured it. Call me paranoid or a dinosaur, but that's my comfort level. I would happily have filled in the blacks if they were only for admin use.

Oh well, fingers crossed that they are flexible.

is there an option to retake the test?
False. Almost every ICA has a notes retention requirement of between 'until payment is received' up to around 3 years. Since these same companies often indicate you should fill out a copy of your report in your vehicle right after the shop is performed, if you throw it away immediately you are violating your retention requirement.
