We all know the typical pay range for traditional mystery shopping. However, I am wondering the typical pay range for video mystery shopping. I have been doing research on video, and the equipment seems expensive. What do shops average in this field??

Depending on the length and complexity of the shop, they pay from a low of $35 (possibly plus reimbursement for an oil change at that low end) to $120 and up. I am currently doing a route of 8 at $100 each and 7 at $90 each. The typical newbie will top out at about $65 to 75 per shop until they have proven to be reliable and competant. I always advise newbies to do a few with equipment supplied by the MSC before deciding to spend from $280 to $420 on a set of equipment. Busy view shoppers will need at least two full sets of equipment because they will be doing multiday road trips and need emergency back-up equipment to save the trip if one set should fail.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
walesmaven, thanks so much for your advice! I really appreciate it and will consider this further. How many days are your routes??
peach,
Routes all depend on how many days of shops a shopper can get strung together that will make a profit. I am on a route that has 8 working days and 3 days off for spending the holiday weekend at my sister'shouse in the middle of the route. Route planning is an art that you can wait to learn until you have mastered video shopping. When you spend money for fuel, tolls, hotels and meals, you want to be sure that your video product is good enough that you will be fully compensated! Practice close to home, lol.

This information is so true. I am on year 2 of doing video and I think I am one of about 4 who actually own their own equipment (that shop) in my area. I am waiting for my kids to get bigger so that I can do the routes in the summer. I wish I had found video when I started shopping in 2004. I would have started teh routes then but everything has it's timing. I'm not sure how long it takes to get the nice routes but like wave said tho low $35 shops are great. I had 5 and got extra for equipment, extra for going out 20 miles plus reimbursed for the service. That scheduler also has given my name to other companies as well.
