Restaurant menu photos

I've done a MS a few times where all I'm required to do it take photos of the menu. It really intrigues me as I can't figure out why they'd pay a MS to do it! The restaurant has its entire menu on the internet. Any ideas?

I've done that job too. I'm just guessing, but I believe it's because the menus on the web sites don't always show prices. Also, web sites are not always updated to show when the restaurants are offering specials. I think the shops are for competitors.

Are you using cameras or cell phone?
And does anybody look at you crosseyed, or ask what you're doing ?

I use my 8MP phone camera.

When I request the menu, I tell them I'm taking pictures because when I order takeout, the prices or specials aren't on the website. Alternatively, I say that the website isn't always current.

They've offered paper takeout versions of the menu, but I point out that the takeout menus don't list all of the items available.

Competitors do not want to spend the money to get a menu. Menus differ from market to market. You are not shopping for the company that you are evaluating. That company already has lots of copies of the menu. They do not need your photo.

You could also be working for the franchiser checking the franchisee. If they are not using company supplied menus they have to comply to standards. Again you will find a location in one part of the country or even a location in one part of a city may differ from another location.

Could be checking that promotions or special offers are being run also.
