Fast food shop within a convenience store

Hey,

I recently did a fast food shop attached to a convenience store and my report was invalid because it said I did not check the bathroom.

Problem was, in this location, the bathroom was clearly in the convenience store and not in the fast food section. I looked for the bathroom and clearly noted that it was part of the convenience store.

What would be your advice for the future when doing these? I emailed them back and told them where the bathroom was located in the convenience store (so they know I DID check) and am hoping for them to validate it, but do you guys just go in the convenience store bathroom and judge it, knowing its not part of the store you are shopping at?

I check the bathroom at all fast food shops, regardless of where the fast food is located. I have checked mall bathrooms at fast foods in mall food courts, bathrooms at WalMart when I eat at the fast foods located in those stores, and convenience store bathrooms in fast food restaurants that are attached to convenience stores. It's a requirement to check the bathroom regardless of what part of the building the bathroom is located. Sometimes they don't ask about it in the report, but if they do, and you haven't checked, I've always assumed my shop would be invalidated.
Really depends on the shop guidelines. Some will specifically state that you need to still check. A digusting bathroom could be a turn off to a potential customer. If I stop there first to wash my hands, I would just turn around and leave if the bathroom is filthy. The company may still want to know as it could be impacting their bottom line. They may be able to put pressure on the convenience store to take care of it or move to a dfferent location if they realize this is an issue.

Unless I am 100% certain a bathroom check is not required, I always look. I have the information if needed and if not it is only a minute or so to prevent having to come back or having a shop rejected. Also, it is a great place to glance through guidelines or notes to make certain I am not missing anything critical.

If there is a bathroom anywhere within a 100 feet of the location I check it!! You can't go wrong but doing it.
I do a restaurant in a large chain hotel and the restroom is in the lobby and I always check it. It only takes a minute and then you are covered.
Was this fast food place a sandwich shop per chance? I have seen the sub shops and you have to find the bathroom, because it is located somewhere inside the convenience store.

The Golden Arches (I shopped) has no bathroom because it is inside a W-World store, so I go inside the W-World store and notate on that restroom..just in case.

Do everything you can to find that bathroom!

ASK an employee if there is a bathroom ANYWHERE on the property. You can only report NO if it's out of order (happened to me twice) or being used longer than 15 minutes, in which I still wait....
I would've checked the convenience store washroom because customers from the ff place would most likely use the convenience store's washroom since it's the only one available. I would also make a note in my report that there was no washroom in the ff section but there was one located in the convenience store next to the ff place.

I always check the restroom for the golden arches shops - even the ones inside hospitals. Besides, I'd rather wash my hands before eating.

I alwaqys check the bathroom. Oh wait, that's because I always need the bathroom! That comes in handy sometimes. The one fast food place that I shop that is in a convenience store, the rules say to check for the bathroom even if it's in a convenience store. Then I do the report and it says something like, "Thank you for checking the bathroom, however this month this location does not require a bathroom check." I checked the bathroom at the subshop even though the instructions and report made no mention of it. It just seemed like the righ thing to do. On the rare occasion I don't need the bathroom on a shop, I actually feel weird when I leave a location and I haven't checked the bathroom, I feel like I forgot something.
I haven't seen a case where the instructions did not carefully spell out what you were to do. If it's not in the directions, I've always found it on the shop form, which I preview before going to the location. The huge fast food operation says to check all restrooms no matter where they are. I've seen a sandwich shop which says not to check if they are in with another business.
I just say check it regardless. There are so many places that want you to check it that it can't hurt. I would rather pop in and check than get home and face a question I don't have the answer to. If you make it part of your routine, you don't need to remember which version it is when at the shop.
Not all the sandwich shops require a restroom check. Some prefer that you notate the restroom was a part of the convenience store. I think it's unfair when a MSC or client wants the restroom checked if it's not their responsibility to clean. I get that they're worried it might turn off potential clients but points shouldn't be taken off the report for things the associates have no control over.

That being said. It doesn't hurt to check if you're not sure. Then you can make a quick note of the condition and that it wasn't a part of the ff place. Like others have said, great place to check notes, too.
