Scam? Anyone else get this email?

I got this email offering part time jobs, supposedly with Mercantile Systems. I replied and was offered this position. To do the job I had to evaluate websites. Well they were all spam websites. I haven't done it yet, but want to know if anyone else received this email. I just fimd it difficult to believe Merc Systens would be evaluating spam websites.

Anyone else get this or know about it?

I got the email. I didn't investigate as I wasn't interested.

That is weird. Real e-mails come from @mercsystems.com. I thought it was a real job posting, but having you evaluate websites doesn't match up with anything in the job description which sounds like a normal editing job. I may give them a call on Monday.

what exactly are spam websites? post a few of the websites. As far as I know the offer is real.

[goprou.com]

[fix.allstargifts.net] (for example, this says participation required, which means you have to sign up for magazines or something else, then you get constantly spammed)

[level.freesurprisecenter.com] (same with this one) and the email says you have to go through the whole thing and order their product, but you won't have to give your credit card. No you won't, but you'll get whatever you signed up for and you'll pay that later.

Anyone done this? Any ideas?
The original email came from Renee Wolfe. The email address was mercsystems.com.I was to reply to another mercsystems.com email address vcasares@mercsystems.com. When the reply came back it was from: contact@marketingresearchgroup.net

Perhaps the email got redirected? I will call them Monday -- good idea. techman01 do these sites say legitimate to you? you've been doing this far longer than myself.
It does sound like you got redirected. Who is your e-mail provider and did you click on any links in the e-mail?

Those sites are not legit. I think the problem is with your email and not Merc systems. Whose your provider. Loss like your computer has spyware on it. Download and run spybot from CNET.com and check

Would that mean the e-mail isn't legitimate?

Email itself should be fine, just their computer is infected from something else. Someone else try replying and see what happens

Comcast is the provider. I replied to the email and they sent back a zip file with three PDF documents. One was the campaigns with clickable links. I clicked, that's what I got.

I don't think the links are the problem only because the reply to the email came back from someone other than Merc. I think the email is the problem. Both contacts had legit email address mercsystems.com. The returned email had a .net.The 888 number they gave me to call in the second email was disconnected.

I don't think spyware can redirect your email and I've got an adware thing running as well as AVG which checks links for weird stuff. I'll call Merc on Monday. Maybe they have employees running a scam, who knows. Both email addresses were for theur employees. One was the original sender, then he said to reply to someone else, which is where the problem happened.

Hey mDavisnowell would you be willing to reply to the one you got just to see what comes back?
jsegraves - sorry, I already deleted it.

I copied and pasted the reply to address. So far nothing has come back. I didn't include any information other than my name. Out of habit, I first ask for additional information and tell them a resume will be provided later. If it is a scam, that's a guarantee they won't get back with me.

Thanks Lisa. Good idea. Be interesting to see what happens -- or doesn't, as the case may be.
I got a very similar email from someone else. I don't know who now I deleted it. But it was along the same lines as the above.

They wanted me to google "veo" something and then evaluate the a webiste. They said you would be paid 50 cents to a dollar for the first evaluation of 200-300 words. Then IF they hired you, you would be paid $10 per hour to write reports on the websites. I wish I didn't delete it.
SAM, that's the sneaky way these places get around spam filters. They get their scam sites into the search engine rankings and then have users themselves Google and visit the sites. Sneaky bas**rds.
I discovrered that the name on the email was also the name of a scheduler, but different format for the email address. I emailed her and she responded noting that it was a real job but neither she nor the person to whom I sent the resume, received it. They asked me to send it again to the other person, and copy the real person I emailed. Just did that. Be interesting to see what happens, if one email goes through and the other doesn't.......that would be interesting.
I received the same Email a few days ago and it said it was from Renee on behalf of Valerie. I replied and forgot about it. Tonight I received a response and have a phone interview tomorrow with Valerie. I did not receive any attachments or links to click on in any of the emails.
