And I just found out from a msc that Carnitas is not a plural. I never really thought about whether it was plural or not but used "were" instead of "was" in a description. So those of you shopping Mexican food, be aware. The company just nicely pointed it out to me by the way. They did not deduct.
Carnitas, or las carnitas, are plural, if one is referring to the small pieces of meat. If one is referring to carnitas as a dish, then it is singular.
Oh, the grammar question. Consider, language is a living thing, not a formula for speech. It changes due to a variety of causes, and variations in pronounciation, regional dialects, spelling, and meanings come and go as fast as the populations using it changes.
I just finished a course in the English Language and some of the items opened my eyes. Like the great vowel shift. And regional differences in America. Lots of good sutff.
