need advice ASAP on a video upload question

Hi everyone!
This message is directed to those of you who own or have used the PV-500 lite video recorder...

When I download the file onto my computer, it seems that no matter what program I use, I can only get the sound of the video, but cannot see the actual recording. Does anyone know how I can do this?

I need to upload a video to a MSC ASAP and cannot figure out how to view the videos on my computer! AHHH!! Usually, I listen to and look at them on the DVR before uploading, save them to my computer, and never have an issue. Now that I need to go back and choose a short clip to send, I cannot see the videos! I want to pick the best one to send, but need to see them before sending. I have erased them from the SD card, so I can't review them on my camera. Any help??

Yikes, I do not know how to help, but I do have some advice.

NEVER, EVER, erase the SD card version until you have been paid for the video shop. If necessary, you can then mail the SD card to the MSC, where they may have techies who can recover the file.

Meanwhile, please be sure to check/test your video cam before you do any more shops. The wiring between the cam and the PV unit is the weak spot in any system. You can get the cam rewired for a fraction of the price of a new cam, BTW. This is also why most v-shoppers own two camera sets.

Amie,

IF you can view the job on your DVR, but not on your computer, which is my understanding of your problem, you need a codec download. If, though, it's not viewable on your unit, consider Wales' advice. Before my first video assignment in Aug. of 2009, which was for EPMS, Bob Asher instructed me that if there was a problem with watching my shop to do nothing but mail the DVR and he would try to extract the work.
First, thanks so much for the help, especially to LisaSTL for hanging with me until after midnight! What would I do without you guys helping me along???
Anyways, I was typing in a frantic last night so some of it may have been confusing. The file I wanted was a short video that a company wanted to see as an example of my work. It was from a shop I have already been paid for so that is why it was not on my SD card for me to view on the DVR. I saved it to my computer, but my dinosaur of a computer would not show the video, only the sound. I cannot figure out how in the world to get the computer to show both the video and sound. Does this make better sense? Still have not figured it out.....
amie,
Be careful. The video that you have is the property of the MSC and their client. You are NOT free to use it as a test video for another company!!!!

You could easily get a considerable backlash from the second company, if they realize that it was a real shop video AND all of these v-companies share their opinions of their shoppers with one another. Maybe it would be a good ime to got out and do a video of a trip to your grocery store????

Ironically enough, that's what I have had to resort to. I had to follow my kids and husband around taping them!!! I did not realize what you said about the videos being property of the MSC. Good thing I had this little problem, or I could have potentially found myself in a mess!
Amazing how things end up working out for the bestgrinning smiley

amie,
All's well that ends well. We have all had the video gods kick us in the teeth. This time they missed you.

This is why the forums are so great.

Oh no, my friend, I should get dentures for the times I have already been kicked in the teeth! This time, I would like to think I just dodged a bullet to the teeth! smiling smiley
