Craig's List MSC Scam - Newbies Especially Beware

Fraudulent Job Offers on Craig's List:

An individual or individuals posting opportunities on Craig's List and other locations using email addresses from the domain "amusementadvantageinc.com" (and others) offering jobs, and mystery shopping opportunities is committing fraud. They are using many names including Paul Shane, Danielle Leon and many different email addresses. They will state that you will be shopping at Wal-Mart and Western Union or other locations. They are trying to involve individuals in cashing fake checks and then sending the money to them. We do NOT use the domain amusementadvantageinc.com as we always use amusementadvantage.com with no inc in the address. Please consider any communication from these individuals as a scam or fraudulent behavior. We never conduct any business or complete any shops that involve cashing checks or money orders or other projects with funds in this manner. Please share any information regarding such scams with the Federal Trade Commission and the Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

My dentist's assistant was victim to this scam an lost a bundle. It surprised me that so many educated people fall for this.

I told her that the only way to do MS is to be a member of this forum and read, read, read. All of you have been so helpful to me and others.

Thank you to all of you.
cynb,
Why not ask MSPA? Since shoppers are not members of the trade group that represents many MSCs, we don't get their agendas or newsletters.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Unfortunately because we're living in difficult times, people (no matter how intelligent they are) will fall for these scams because they're desperate to earn some extra money. Whenever I see those ads on Craigslist, I always post a message warning people not to apply to them and let them know that if they want to want to get into MSing, they can come to this forum or the V-board for a list of legitimate MSCs.
People will try anything to scam! When I first started MS a few months ago, I stumbled on a Mystery Shopping company and my interest was piqued. I then went to Google and researched the name and found out it was a legitimate company and signed up. From there, this web site along with a free trial with Shadow Shopper, I was able to connect dots and find good companies.

I feel so sorry for those that jump in with stars in their eyes, never taking a minute to research or ask questions. Most MS companies I've signed up with have a little disclaimer about companies and fraudulent check-cashing schemes right on their home page.

Thank God for those of you that are seasoned! It's awesome we newbies have access to good, legimate information and support! Many of you have done the work for us! The site is an invaluable resource and has saved me gobs of time and heartache!
