How long do you let an app flap in the breeze?

I have 2 apps out there. 1 is for a casino shop. I had asked for a clarification before I applied and in answering me the scheduler said that she would be assigning at the end of the week. That was almost 3 weeks ago. This type of shop takes some advance planning. (serious money outlay and possibly requesting a day off from day job) Should I email the scheduler and ask her about it, or pick a date and cancel if I haven't heard by that date? It is still on the job board, so apparently it hasn't been assigned yet.

The other I just applied for last weekend, it was with TS and said it needed to be done ASAP. I don't know if it can be done on the weekend or not, but it said I'd need to attempt to do it within 2 business days of receiving. I figured I could do it on Friday, since I have that day off. I asked for PAD since it is kind of far (no matter that their map says). If I don't hear by Friday, and it can't be done on the weekend, doing it next week could be a stretch. But I don't even see a place to cancel the app with them. Do i contact them and say if I don't do it this Friday, it will need to wait until next Friday? Last time this happened with them, I put in a bid much lower than I normally would because I was going to be in the area anyway, but then I didn't hear until 2 days after I had gotten back. I declined the shop, then they called a few days later to see if I could still do it at that price! ummmm nope.

What to do, what to do!

If I were you, I would contact the scheduler about the casino shop and delete the application soon if necessary. As for the TS assignment, I would contact TS and ask them to cancel my application.

Almost all my apps are requesting bonuses so I contact the scheduler directly and tell them when I want to do the shop, what I need to be paid to do the shop, and what I consider a "drop-dead" date after which I will not accept th shop so that I am not hanging on their decision. I got burned on travel and time really badly once having to fit a shop into my regular working schedule because the scheduler took quite a while to assign it and I considered it a matter of honor to complete it because I asked for it. I was a newbie at that time and did not realize that schedulers, and rightly so, have their own time considerations and may not be able to assign a shop immediately just because you asked for it.

I don't do job board shops too often but when I do I never apply and always email the scheduler directly

If I applied a while ago and havent' heard I cancel them if they have to "debate" that much it's probably not meant to be for me. 1 week max. I have noticed that TS never pays attention to those PAD requests...I do them and then they call me and ask me to do it....I tell them it's already requested with PAD and they act shocked.
lol looks like TS "heard" me! I am now a back up for that assignment. Thanks for all the help!

I thought you were talking about smart phone apps and came over to see how they could flap.
The more challenging the shop would be to fit in, the less time I will let it sit there. If you can contact the scheduler, I think it is the better way to go.
Not sure what company job board>> I stay away from seems they are taking a bite out of your pie ( yours is) but, I love my casino jobs pay you to lose someone else's money ,hotel stay, food what else do you want? And they pay you on top of that...
I don't let the ap flap for long.

If I'm applying on line on the company website, I enter it on my job sheet as "applied" and it can sit until I get a firm or better offer, or my day moves in a different geographical location. Then I'll cancel the pending application without remorse. After all, we're all trying to nail down a day.

If I'm responding to an email, I get really specific about what I can do and sometimes I'll make an offer even if I can't meet their deadline.

Recently I had an email on a rush job "today or tomorrow" at $11. I read the email at 9:30 p.m. at night so "today" was over. "Tomorrow" was remotely possible but not convenient. I wanted to do the job "day after tomorrow" and thought that might possibly work. Here's what I did. I responded to the email and offered to do the job "tomorrow" for $25.00, explaining that I'd have to re-work my schedule. However, I could do it "day after tomorrow" for $15.00.

This gave the company a direct link back to me if they couldn't fill it "tomorrow" for $11.

I got a wakeup call first thing in the morning "day after tomorrow" asking if I could still do this shop for $15. Of course I could. Happy me. Bingo!

That is the great thing about an email rather than applying on some of the websites. I had a scheduler begging for a shopper to complete a location. There was 90 rotation and it was 7 days since I had been there, but a different version of the shop than I had done. I was able to e-mail ask about breaking rotation and doing it on a different day. All were approved with a bonus.
