Tips:

In Word write several narratives. Read them aloud to make sure they sound reasonable. Make sure they include good descriptions and no opinions. Use the spellchecker and grammer checker that come with Word. Save these to use on your applications. Most frequent topics are:

1) Why you would make a good shopper
2) Best shopping experience
3) Worst shopping experience

If you come across a different narrative requirement, prepare it in Word as above and save it also for future use.

Whenever you use one of your narratives, read it through again because chances are you will find something you can improve--save your revisions.

If you have not set up a separate email account for mystery shopping, do so--I strongly recommend a free email account from Gmail.com because of its flexibility to be able to create 'flags' to locate 'Sign Ups', 'Jobs', 'Payments' and the like. Be sure to use a professional sounding gmail name (SexySally@gmail.com is NOT going to cut it smiling smiley )

If you have not set up a Paypal account for mystery shopping, do so. Individual accounts are free and you can link it to a bank account to easily transfer money or check out their other options.

As a separate file in your mystery shopping stuff, carefully record your 9 digit bank routing number and your account number for direct deposit from a check (not a deposit slip). Then when you need this for an application you can copy and paste the information rather than scrounge for the check and possibly make an error inputting the data on the application.

Set up a list (I use Excel) of companies you have signed up with, your login and your password. I also enter the date I applied and their website, phone number and other information as it comes to hand--such as payment schedule. I like Excel for this as I can realphabetize my list easily--which becomes important when you have signed up with more than 200 companies.

I use Firefox to register with new companies because as soon as I put in the first letter of my name I am given a drop down from which I can quickly select my name. This works for almost all boxes. Some folks use Roboform to help fill in applications but I find I am more comfortable with Firefox.

When asked for a social security number, note in the URL bar at the top of your screen if this is a secure site or not. If it is not, think twice about providing your number, though realize that without it many companies will not accept you as a shopper. If you got the contact information for the company from this forum, from Volition.com or from the MSPA site (mysteryshop.org) you can be relatively comfortable that the company is legitimate.

Good luck!
Nope, I use a PC. Firefox is perfectly happy on a PC and offers quite a few features unavailable with IE. It is definitely my browser of choice. There is a free download for it at [www.mozilla.com] While my adult son uses an Apple laptop, it is on his dime. I have always favored the PCs (since coming off the old Commodores) because of the hardware cost and software availablity. While my son has always been taken by the Apple "cool stuff" and graphic capabilities, they have never worth the additional cost to me.
