Technology ipad and iphone question

Ok, I doubt I am the only hoping that Santa brings me an ipad. I am hoping it will help in my mystery shop adventure. I think in order to do so I am going to need a little feedback on apps that are must haves or apps that are nice that will save time or just help in mystery shopping. Personally I do not care if they are free or paid apps, obviously the free would be better. I asked Santa for the ipad to free time up so I have more time with my partner. Open to any feedback.

I can't help but I also have asked Santa for an iPad. I think it would be really useful when I'm on the (mystery shopping) job. I'd be interested to hear from someone who uses an iPad to mystery shop what apps they use too.
Missy has one and uses the heck out of it. Hopefully, she will have time to weigh in. Inquiring minds want to knowwinking smiley

I use one. I had a net book and it was great, but with the charger it was 4lbs. My iPad weighs in at under 2, even w the fancy cover my kids got me. That doesn't sound like much but after carrying it around for a full day of airport shops it was heavy!
I have the iPad2 w/ Wifi. I tried a bunch of different apps but now have simplified it to the Notes feature.
I copy and paste the form, edit out the guidelines and straighten up the questions (qualifies as my review of the form). If its a new shop I'll open a new Note for the guidelines.
After completing the shop I fill out the form with my observations. Nice thing is for a some of my shops I can enter quick info while actually on the shop (bar or casual dine). These days nobody looks crossways at you if you are carrying your technology in your hand or lay it on the bar next to you.
After completing and submitting the form online, I email myself a copy.
If only I could upload receipts directly to the MSC form from the pad, it would be perfect for me. Now I have to wait till I'm at a desktop to submit the receipts or pictures.
Why can't you upload any receipts? That would knock out companies like CORI that require the receipts first or mVentix that doesn't have a save feature.

I have an iPad, But really don't have a list of favorite apps yet. I do love the voice to text feature that comes with the IOS 6. I have the "new" iPad or the third version I think it picks up text really clear and actually have used to do my narratives on a number of assignments. With regard to uploading receipts I know that you had to upgrade to iOS 6 in order to do with the new ipad, I'm not sure if it works with the iPad 2.

However, I know for certain if you're still running iOS five it does not work to upload your receipts. It's a two tap process on my iPad. Doc scan HD opens a scanner type interface and I use when scanning my receipts.

I am still looking for a good app for saving a report to PDF. When the guidelines are available as a PDF, I save to iBooks.
Shelly, I have the Adobe Reader app on my phone and it was a free one. Would it work for saving those reports?

It looks like you can read the PDFs with the Adobe app which I could also do it iBooks, but I don't see a way to create a PDF. There are a few apps available that claim they can do it but most of them have a cost. I am more than willing to pay a few bucks if it works, but want to make sure it does. I got a free app, but it was connected to an Internet browser which kept shutting down on me.
can't the IPad take pictures? If it can take pictures, can't they be uploaded? I would have thought an Ipad would be a full-service device for inputting a report and pics of the receipts? Not so? (I only have a droid smart phone and I thought even it could save a pic such that I could upload it from the phone. Haven't tested it, but that assumption is part of why I bought the thing)

I pray it does not occur that the last thing I did before I died was vacuum the house or eat broccoli.
No problem with submitting pictures for reports on the newest iPads. There were some compatibility issues with earlier versions.
The iPad does take pictures, great pictures actually, but (at least on mine) they can't be attached or uploaded to the form. You can attach them to email or text but not to a form with the 'browse' button. Something about storing files. The 'browse' button is grayed out. I tried using iCab browser but no luck with it yet.
I'm leery about upgrading to IOS 6 because of reported loss and trouble with Wifi. Maps or You Tube I don't care so much about but if I lost or had trouble with WiFi, that would be a big problem for me. If I knew for sure that it would work on my 2 I might. For now I'm back to a desk top within the day to complete the reports and upload the receipts. Short narratives are fine but some of the longer ones are best left to a desk top.
I'm beginning to think Apple likes to give you an almost full service product.
And this is where Android users chime in and say: "Pick Me!" "Pick Me!"
In the General Chat section there is thread of similar topic ongoing. MissyH71 provides some great info!

I have the iPad 2 with iOS 6. It doesn't work with Mventix because their site requires Flash, which the iPad doesn't use. sad smiley

You can upload files under iOS 5 using the browser iCabMobile or (much easier) natively under iOS 6.

My favorite apps for MSing are Notability and GoodReader. Notability lets you type, handwrite, draw, insert pics or other items, then it will let you choose a format in which to save. Formats include PDF, RTF and Notability's note format. You can then email the file, tweet it, print it, open it in another app on your iPad or upload it to a variety of different online storage services (e.g. Box, Dropbox, WebDAV servers, etc.)

I prefer GoodReader to edit PDFs. I could do that in Notability, but I have a soft spot for GoodReader because I've used it the longest and it's so flexible for editing. (Please note that I am editing a PDF copy of the report, so I then have to enter my report into the MSC's website.)

Go ahead, ask me to violate an ICA. I won't do it, and the MSCs that read the board will know not to hire you, since you can't be trusted.
I LOVE my ipad. One thing I also bought that helps is a portable scanner. If we are doing a route, I scan my receipts while on the road. I have an IPAD adaptor. I put the card into the adaptor, and plug it into the IPAD, go to an app that I downloaded called "ifile" It allows me to see, and rename all pics and receipts and then put them into drop box which allows me to upload the report. A bunch of steps, but if someone else is doing the driving, or I am out of town with some down time between reports, I can do the report, complete with pics from start to finish before I get home! The portable scanner really isn't necessary if you have a digital camera. You can put that card into the adaptor as well once you take a pic of the receipt. Hope that helps!

Why not use the built in camera in the iPad? It just uses free scanner app and it works great.
I have also found that the MAPS application on my IPad3 has the best GPS navigation on the market today. It dislays my route in nice, big lettering that I can actually see. It also has the voice navigation. I never attempt any route shopping without it, especially in areas that I am not familar with.
I tried to upload a receipt to a Sassie MSC report form today on my iPad2 using the iCab browser. No luck. Is there a trick?
When I got my iPad it was recent enough that I used ioS-5 only iOS 6. I know another member said it wasn't possible until she upgraded to six from five. I am uncertain as to whether she had an iPad 2 or 3.
I'm NOT asking for MSC names or hints, but just generally, is the Apple Store shopped? I've never seen it and had the service appt from H**L recently and wished they were shopped!
I have shopped apple store, but not for customer service - it was from a competitor. Another apple store shop available now is for someone to drop off their mac for repair. I also had the service from h*ll from an apple store for my iPhone5. BTW, I do not recommend anyone upgrade to i5 yet. It sucks! The wi-fi is spotty - even in my own house, where the i4 worked in every room, plus the backyard and driveway.

i have a scanner app on my i5 and iPad, but so far have not gotten it to work for a report yet. I like to use siri for notes because I can talk into it while driving and it mostly translates correctly.

I use DocScan HD which was free. Only trouble I have had was a very rare unclear shot. However, those were all in poor lighting conditions.
