Sick and Cancelling -anyone else?

I have been hit hard with the flu. It's been since last week when I started feeling icky and have been in bed mostly since. I have sadly had to cancel a slew of shops wide and far. Some fun ones too. I was a former scheduler and I don't do it lightly but right now I can't walk for more than a few minutes, drinking alcohol is completely out of the realm of possibilities and my brain is a foggy patch of sorriness. I can't believe how long this has lasted and the doctors are saying it can be a couple of weeks more. ARGGG not happy. I feel bad for the schedulers as they are wanting me to reschedule but it's one of these things where I just can't comfortably do so. I have lots of friends down with this too so I know I am not alone but it is sure messing with my FL time....but hey those who complain about the snowbirds who took their jobs can assign them now due to my cancellations.

Liz, I heard on the news about the "worse flu season in a decade." Please stay home and rest and I hope you'll feel better soon. And no, I'm not one of those who complain about snowbirds taking ms jobs here, but could y'all drive a little slower? The traffic around here is CRAZY during snowbird season.

That is funny as my daughter who lives in our condo year round and has worked down here for five years complains about how slow they drive - but she is dealing with tourists maybe and not snowbirds per se...Disney.

Liz - I got sick the first week in November and I'm still having a very bad time with it. Take care of yourself.

Thanks - I have heard way too many of these stories of it dragging on -- or you getting to the point you can be out and about but the lingering cough, tiredness, etc. Suppose to drive home the end of January and depending on how I feel I might fly my brother down here to drive me home. Right now I can't fathom the car trip.

LOL! From Thanksgiving to New Years - I fear for my life on the freeways! I don't know what your daughter's idea of slow is, but the NY, Texas, GA and Tenn plates are going 80-85 mph on I-75, AND they change lanes every few feet!!! If your condo is anywhere near water, then the speed limit there is 30 or less and they will ticket if you go over by 1 mile. LOL. I stay away from Orlando during snowbird season. Summer time is when I like to shop there.

Last year was the worst year of my life, and all the physical, emotional and mental stress finally got to me in October. I fell ill again and again, was late filing many reports, had to beg for forgiveness and extensions, and had to re-do many shops. I did almost no shop in December because I needed time to heal and because I knew I would be a poor and unreliable shopper otherwise.

I'm dealing with multiple medical issues on a daily basis and tire easily, but feel MUCH better than I have been for many months. Changing my attitude and putting myself first makes a big difference.
Liz, I'm able to drive myself to the doctor and buy groceries, but I'm still coughing and weak. If you have the same strain, I'm not optimistic about how you'll feel at the end of the month. My flu progressed into pneumonia, and I understand this is very common with this flu. Some here are recovering at a normal pace, and some (like me) are recovering very slowly. There have been several deaths already nationwide.

Hey Traveliz,

...sorry you're sick. I've heard so much about how terrible this flu is. I hope you feel better soon.

We are in Windermere and specifically bought to avoid I4 as much as possible.

Cough, cough, cough, - been like that since before Christmas. I only had to actually cancel one shop and did a lot of rearranging and re-scheduling. Was not fun. Starting to feel better so hang in there. I just hope all the MSC understand about the flu season.
I've had to reschedule some assignments due to physical issues that have arisen lately. I was struggling to deal with those while still taking on a few limited and easy assignments when I got hit with food poisoning. Took a couple of days to recover from that, which caused me to postpone a few more assignments. I'm trying hard to play catch-up now, but I am simply dragging along. My get-up-and-go has completely gone. The exhaustion is to the point it's painful to try to keep going.

Like Buzz, I've been dealing with other personal and emotional issues that have taken their toll as well. The last few months have been hellish. I think it's time for me to take some time off.

Here's hoping we all get to feeling better soon. I'm off to go look at my schedule now to see if I can find a way to squeeze in some downtime.

I'm no doctor.....but people have been so kind and helpful here I thought I would post this and if no one wants to try it that's all good. When I get sick (colds, flu, that kind of thing) I take a clove of raw garlic and mince it as best I can with a paring knife and mix it with a tablespoon of honey and quickly swallow it down. Garlic is one of the world's best antibiotics and it can kill off quite a bit of stuff....once again, I'm no doctor. But doctors in Russia did use this to save many lives out on the battlefields in World War 1 when soldiers had infected wounds. Cheap and worth a try perhaps? Also the honey is mildly anti-biotic and also cuts the garlic breath some, as will chewing on coffee beans or eating parsley. Hope you'all get to getting better soon.
I came down with a severe cold (had 3 days coughing without a let up) day after T-Day. After the 3 coughing days I gave in and called the doctor. Thank God for cough medicine with codeine. Allowed me to get my first sleep during those 3 days. I only had one shop and although I did not want to do it, I did as it was a curbside at the Olive Garden. It was a "party to go" order and I was grateful that I did it as I didn't feel like cooking (and live alone) so all that food kept me alive for about 3-4 days until I felt well enough to be able to handle kitchen chores again.

I love the curbside to go restaurants!!
Well flulike symptoms anyway. Coughing and cancelling and postponing. Yeah I imagine schedulers are going crazy and a lot of them probably sick, too. Gonna try the garlic and honey.
While never together, I have used both honey and garlic for their antibiotic properties and look at it this way, it can't hurtwinking smiley

Just occured to me though, Lisa if a virus, anibiotic won't do it. But maybe has some other helpful properties.

I was curious so I googled garlic for the flu - as I have taken raw garlic when I have had the flu before with not overnight but gone in a couple of days results - and apparently garlic does also have anti-viral properties due to the allicin it contains. Anyway, I just wanted to pass this along and hope you'all feel better soon.
I'll go ahead and toss out my recipe for a "Hot Toddy". It works with bad colds & I've even done it when I've had a low fever.

1 cup hot tea
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1.5 oz. whiskey or brandy

Mix all together. Get in bed then drink. You'll be out within 5-10 minutes. It will make you sweat all night but in the morning you'll feel better.

.
Have PV-500 & willing to travel.

I was in the same position a few weeks ago. Do yourself and everyone you may come in contact with a favor and STAY HOME AND REST!!!! Nothing is worth your health. I feel for you. The flu is awful. I hope you feel better soon. Sleep with sliced onions beside your bed. Cray, I know, but my 97 year old grandmother did it, I was desperate enough to try anything that may work other than useless OTC mess, and it worked. For someone with constant sinus issues, it worked like a charm. I am not an anti-mess person at all, but the OTC stuff just does not work for me.

Ok my friend recently heard about the onions trick and has been trying to get me to do that.

Just chewed up a garlic clove. Seems to have some immediate antihistimine effect, or it was the shot of vodka.
Caught this flu despite a flu shot. I tried every flu shortening product to no avail so that I could complete assignments. I had to cancel two assignments as a result. I hope that the schedulers are as sympathetic as my shop mates. Cough, cough, cough............need more tissue, cough drops, cough medicine and Nyquil. Waah!
I was lucky to get in to my doctor right away, she got me Tamiflu. Worked like a charm, I was back to normal in 24 hours. She gave me a flu shot in November, but said that she's been seeing a ton of viral infections in her vaccinated patients this year.

Best wishes to all of you who are sleeping with raw onions, drinking whiskey and swallowing garlic cloves. You are a hardy bunch of pioneers, that is for certain!
I cannot take OTC cold remedies at all. Those things that warn of drowsiness make me so jittery I can feel my hair grow. The old-fashioned remedies like Vicks are my only choice. My favorite hot toddy is Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice tea with a shot of Myer's Rum and some honey. Now that will make me drowsysmiling smiley

My whole family was sick. First me, then my 2 daughters, then hubby, then me again!

My daughters had 104 temps, one was vomiting. Hubby and I mostly had a lot of mucus and high temp. We're all better now, and luckily I didn't have to cancel any shops.
I woke up today and feel like I have turned a corner. I have a hotel shop Friday night that I have not yet cancelled and I don't think I will need to now. It's near the airport and I need to drop my niece and nephew off at the airport on friday and pick up my husband on Sat there so theoretically it would be a perfect shop. I don't find hotel shops particularly difficult (it's more than a check list but I am not busy every single second either) and its the kind I can type up as I go so should be done with it except for the last couple of interactions before I leave for the airport and can maybe finish up while waiting for my husband. Now that I have announced my feel betterness watch me stand up and fall down smiling smiley
