Shop Notifier: new FREE smartphone app for SASSIE shoppers!

Hey, shoppers! Here at SASSIE, we know that many of you have had problems receiving your SASSIE shop offer emails. Believe me, we’ve tried every possible way to get those shop offers to you, but no matter what we do, some email providers still think our shop offers are spam – and prevent you from getting them.

Our solution is Shop Notifier, a new free app that brings SASSIE shop offers directly to your Android or iOS smartphone. We don’t even deal with your email provider, so there’s never an issue with shop offers getting through. Not only that, but you get the convenience of mobile – instead of having to start up your computer and open your email program to see if you got any shop offers, you can get them anywhere you take your smartphone with Shop Notifier!

We’ve been testing this out with selected mystery shopping companies and shoppers, who have given it a good workout on a range of iOS and Android mobile devices, and now we’re ready to tell the world about it. You can download Shop Notifier at the links below:

iPhone/iPod/iPad: [itunes.apple.com]

I've been using it on an LG Optimus Slider. The program works and is, IMO, a good solution to the SPAM issue. I get my regular shop emails to my Gmail account about the same time as I get a notification on Notifier. The problem is Notifier crashes at least two to three times a day on my phone.
BusyBeeBuzzBuzzBuzz, thanks for responsing -- I'm glad the app is helping you with spam issues, but not so happy that it's crashing on you. What Android version is your phone running? What version of Shop Notifier are you running (you can get this from going to Settings on your phone, and then Applications -> Shop Notifier)? Who is your carrier -- Virgin Mobil, Sprint, someone else?

Also, if you have problems with Shop Notifier, you can always report them to our support department at shopnotifierhelp@sassieshop.com.

Thanks,

Hi, Mary.

It's not a big deal. Shop Notifier restarts after crashing anyway. It's just slightly annoying to see the error messages and have to clear them.

Android 2.3.4 (I have Virgin Mobile so this is not going to be upgraded unless I root the phone, which I don't plan to do.)

Shop Notifier 1.1.3.
Hello BusyBeeBuzzBuzzBuzz,

Well, that's annoying (the crashes). I'm also running Android 2.3.4 on an HTC Incredible 2 (Verizon). From what I've been able to find on the web, it seems to be a bit of a glitchy Android version -- and also a fairly common version, which is why I'm definitely keeping it on my phone. If you ever happen to note any of the error messages and want to forward them, I'll be happy to pass them along to the developers. What's your phone model?

Canadamommy, I'm glad you like the app -- thanks!

Hello BusyBeeBuzzBuzzBuzz,

Thanks -- if you want to PM me with the email address(es) that you're using in Shop Notifier, I'll get the developers to see if we can find anything helpful in the error logs. Meanwhile we're going to experiment with a few more similar phone models (we don't have an LG Optimus Slider in house) to see if we can reproduce your problem. Thanks again!

So warning if you use this, change it to notify every 4 or 8 hours or it will be dining constantly with the car shops. I had probably 20 dings just this am. Same company and same shops just reposted and reposted. I do not want to turn off that company since I do other things besides cars but come on folks do we need to see 20 of the same car shops?
I get multiple notices as well but it does not bother me. I am starting to like the app more and more because I often receive shop notices before I get the email from the company. I am not sure if it increases my odds of getting a shop accepted, but it can't help to be an early applier.

Thanks, Mary, but I would like to keep my identity secret. Other LG Optimus models are very similar to the Slider.

Thanks again.
I use the app and really like it. I seem to receive the information a little quicker on the app than in my email box.
I've been running Shop Notifier on my LG phone using android version 2.3.4 with service through Smart Talk for a couple of weeks now, and it's been working great. Haven't had any crashes or other glitches.

Running 2.3.4 with Verizon. Lots of crashes so I uninstalled it. May try it again in the future.
For those who don't like getting beeps, you can change this in your preferences:

Android: while in the app, click Settings -> Preferences -> Ring tone, just set it to silent or whatever you like
iPhone: go to iPhone settings -> Shop Notifier and change Sounds to Off

As far as frequency, you can change that too:

Android: Settings -> Preferences -> Notification frequency
iPhone: while in the app, Settings -> long press on Alert Frequency setting

Finally, you can set blackout times during which you will not be alerted:

Android: Settings -> Preferences -> check the Blackout Times checkbox and set a starting and ending time
iPhone: Settings -> long press on blackout start/end times

For blackout times, please note that you will NOT receive notifications starting at the start time and ending at the end time.
I would love to try this app. But, if I have too many apps on my phone then it gives me the "Low Memory" problem. I can't send or receive anything. I have to remember to deleate my spam folder, etc. At one point I had to do a complete restore on the phone. That was not fun! I have an Ally 2.2.1 version.
Error Message:

"Sorry!

"The application Shop Notifier (process com.surfmerhants.PushNotes) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

[Force close button] [Report button]

When I tapped on the Report button, I got:

"Sorry!

"The application Google Play (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

[Force close button]

(Settings) That does not help much. You still massive dings at the time interval.
I also tracked the email time versus the phone time and it arrives within seconds.
It does help if you are not close to a home computer to check.

I don't understand.

When you say "massive dings," do you mean you can't set your phone to be silent when a shop notification arrives? I set the program to be silent and only get a vibration when a notification arrives (because I set my phone to vibrate in lieu of notification ringtones for all apps).

If you mean you get many notifications at each time interval, then the program is doing its job.

As to your concern about getting notifications via email vs. via the phone app, I also don't understand. As I understand it, this app is primarily designed to address the problem of SASSIE email ending up in a spam folder. The app also helps Android phone and iPhone users to get shop postings quickly and automatically--without having to check their email. In other words, with the phone notifications and emails arriving at about the same time, the app is doing its job quite well.

Personally, this app does not help me much in terms getting notifications faster than without the app, because I have my MS email set up on my phone in such a way that I get a notification icon on the top bar--where the Shop Notifier icon also appears when there's a new notification. OTOH, this app does help me in terms of getting notifications that end up in my email spam folder. The key, IMO, is the automation saves me a step or two (i.e. checking my email inbox or spam folder) and therefore is useful to me.

If your complaint is you are not getting phone notifications faster than email notifications, I'm afraid that is not what the app is supposed to do (at least at this stage, anyway).

Props BBBBB. That kind of patience is so important while shopping!

That was nothing, Andrew. It was a simple and minor mistake.

Also, it is very easy to be civil and patient to someone who is civil and trying to help.

I'm not so patient when the other person has an attitude problem. (No surprise to anyone here who have read some of my posts, right?)
Hello all,

I just wanted to let the Android users know that we released an update a couple days ago that fixes some crashing problems and also addresses a memory leak. You've probably already seen and downloaded the update, but in case anyone hasn't, I wanted to let you know that it's out there. Thanks!
