Reschedule equates to cancellation?

Is this typical? I requested a shop that I had accepted for the first day of a 5 day window to be rescheduled to the next day and just received a standard reply saying that my shop was cancelled. First time I picked up a shop with this company but it is not leaving a good taste in my mouth and not exactly wanting me to try any more shops with them. Never had this happen before.

That might be a first. Which company?

Was it on the Sassie system? To change the date you will get a notice that it has been cancelled but then you should get another "accepted" email.

Leave it to Liz. That one didn't even cross my mindconfused smiley

I intensely dislike SASSIE shop postings that require shoppers to pick a specific date. I asked a scheduler to change the date once and she changed it without me receiving an automatic email. So, it looks like the scheduler decides whether or not those emails are sent.

What an unpleasant surprise, G3B. Did you get another "accepted" email yet?
It is a Sassie shop posting and still no "accepted" email. I will keep you all updated. Thanks.
Remember that all shoppers are utter idiots until proven otherwise. If it was your first shop for that company, you are green for all they know, so they passed it to the next bidder. I imagine it was nothing personal.

G3B, as you have not mentioned the client, then feel free to mention the MSC. That might help some of the more experienced shoppers give you a more definitive answer.

Ok did you look to see if the shop is back on the boards? Is there an application (from you) pending in the My apps section? Finally are there more of that shop type on the board or are they all gone? It could be the program was pulled completely (happens more than you would think) due to some small issue and will be back up shortly. And finally have you asked the scheduler what is up? My I have lots of questions today.

Hope it works out for you.

Last year, after some MSCs using Sassie added the requirement of selecting a specific date, I complied, but added in the notes section that my action was only to satisfy the program and that may or may not be when I would complete the work. I then guaranteed I would finish the shop by the due date and commented that if that weren't satisfactory, to not consider me for the job.
I do that Bob too - I put in the last date due and then say that I hope to complete it before hand but will have it done by the due date.

The problem is some of them are not allowing shops on any but the date selected. At least if they have a calendar it is clear to me. A couple of weeks ago Intellishop did not and just asked for my completion date. After it was assigned I saw that my week long window had been reduced to one day and one day only.

Liz,

Thanks for your insight. I have checked My Apps and there is nothing there nor have I received another email after the standard cancel email. There are still jobs for this client in different locations on the board, but my cancelled location is not on the board. I will be more careful about date changes with any Sassie MSC in the future.

I have run into this at times where I have scheduled a date and then asked for one of the later dates on the original list. I have been told that the other dates are no longer available because they have scheduled their next shop based on the early date I chose so a later date for me would mess up the interval between shops. This makes sense to me but I much prefer the companies that allow a window of time. At least I got the choice to keep my date and a nicer answer than a canned "we have cancelled your shop."
It probably makes a difference if you're conveying, "I can no longer do this on the original date" versus, "I can do this on the original date but would prefer this other date if that is possible."

If they needed it done on the original date and you tell them you can't do it that day, the only option they had was to cancel it. (Maybe they had a backup shopper who had asked for that date) I've been lucky that I've never been in a position where I COULDN'T do the shop, but there have been a few times when I've been able to move to a better day for me.

Excellent point. I often do just that and tell them if they need that specific date to consider it done, but it would work better with a route of shops if I can move it to the later date. That opens up a dialogue and most of the time results in me getting the date change.

Thank you for that insight. I will keep that in mind next time I need to reschedule or prefer a change in dates. I usually try to keep to my dates but it just ended up being too crazy on that day and I did not think I would have a problem since my original date was the first day of the shopping window and I only wanted to do it the next day. Oh well........ Live and learn.
