I honestly have no idea but someone asked a similar question not long ago. I pasted the thread. Good luck!

I've seen shops on MCP for free CELLPHONES but not free SMART PHONES.

They are doing them for regular phones and smart phones. You just have to click on the info button to see which one it is.
None of the ones located where I was willing to go were for smartphones then. I didn't look at the details for the others since you have to go back five times.

I went through the whole list of my area, but only because my daughter is in desperate need of a new phone. If not for that.I wouldn't have bothered because I have a different provider and I don't want to switch. Now its just a waiting game to see if I get it. What I dont understand is you have until Sunday to buy the phone,But you cant do It on Sunday and its Saturday night and theyre still sitting on the job board.
They'll extend the dates.

Well either I missed an email, or they aren't with the same company that I thought they were with. Nothing on the job board in my area.
Going back 5 times is not a bad deal as you get paid each time you go. I like the ongoing projects because they are the bread and butter shops for me. I just try to get others to do on the same day and in the same area.
The pay over the 5 visits averages about $15 per visit here. I'll wait until they get desperate and offer a bonus. I'd rather do 5 banks shops on my own timing than commit to something that might force me to have to drive 200 miles for $15.

itsasecret, distance makes all the difference.

Maybe 10% of the ones near me are for Smartphones. I applied for one near work since my Droid is a couple years old and sometimes acts up. The question is whether to spring for the extra $$$ for the phone I really want if it get the shop, or just get one that's covered by reimbursement to have as a backup. Either way, I'd be happy to keep it and do the monthly shops since the minimum service plan is reimbursed and you get paid more for each month, although I believe that while they reimburse as you go, you only get the payment amount if you complete the program.
The last time they did these, the crumbs were bonused up to $175. I tried to get one but someone beat me to it. It would have required me to drive somewhere I don't normally go, so I couldn't really work it in with anything else.

I'll wait for the crumbs, and see if they get run up that high this time. I hate my smart phone, would love to be able to play with a different one for awhile.

I noted there were a number of these shops in my area and I, too, think I'll hang loose to see if they get bonused. Since it's only 20 miles to cover most of the locations, it's not such a bad deal for me. I can always try for another shop or two or have dinner while I'm out and about. I do a mail project for another MSC and I'd just make a run to cover the day I have to pay for cell along with picking up the mail. Average pay for the r/t $30 and if I can find a lunch shop to boot, a decent day for me.
For these shops, do you have to have an old phone to transfer the line over or can it be a completely new activation?

David,

ICA is NOT violated as the client has not been named.

Asking which msc's do smartphone shops is absolutely not a violation, so please LIGHTEN UP,
answering my posting will not result in a home visit by Homeland Security, honest.

I got a totally new account. I kept my old phone and I am using this opportunity to try out a new phone and the new service.
I've read the MSC pays for six months of service. Is this place a no-contract place, so you can drop it after that if you can't continue to afford it on your own? If it's the one I'm thinking, then I think so; but thought I'd ask.

Yep, Storm. No contracts. I did the same as Robyn - new phone, new plan. I didn't even have info ported from the old to the new.

Great! The increasing monthly pay along with the reimbursements are kinda cool, too.

However, the ones I just found all specifically say "You may not purchase a smart phone", in big bold letters. And "This shop is for the purchase of a Standard/Feature phone." Even so, the monthly pay sounds decent overall, if the surveys are reasonable.

Does the same MSC do the smart phone ones, that does the standard phone ones? Or are the shops for the smart phones all done/taken?

Practitioner of the Nerdly Arts.
Never mind. Found the answer!

But why, WHY does the MSC have only address codes listed in that column, instead of the city/state, like they usually do?! I had to click on the "i" for each of the 50+ listings, then wait almost 10 seconds for the little box to pop up, then click to go to page 2 of the little box... all just to see the address of the shop location!

Every other time, the city/state is clearly in that column ~ usually the street address, even. It was a giant hassle to find the three local locations, then the ones for those locations that were for smart phones. Seems they could differentiate *that* (standard vs. smart) in the job description column. My search would've taken about 1 minute, versus the 20 or so minutes this took! sheesh!

Also, they haven't updated the due date on these... they all still say May 17th... next I'll find out if I can apply now, anyway, for next week; or if I have to wait til the due dates have been updated. Heh. smiling smiley

I applied for one of these shops with 5 visits. I never heard back from them, and my application is off the job board

I changed my filters to look for the ones within 1 mile of the zip code. That at least helped to narrow them down.
And then I open each one in a new window so that I didn't have issues with the filters changing when I went back to the full list. I just wish the detailed info page had an apply button on it. I had to double-check that I had the correct one a couple of times just to make sure.
I seemed to have missed out on these mystery shop smart phone shops.

I did one of these the last round, when you HAD to get the cheapest phone. It was bonused to $90 for the whole project (IIRC it was 4 shops in total), and the location was a mile from my home. The shops were pretty easy and the reports weren't bad. Some of the scenarios made me feel like a moron, but other than that I had no complaints.

I tried to sell the phone afterwards. I couldn't even get $5 for it on craigslist, lol.

I'd do another round if it's bonused high enough.
This was the first cell phone shop I enjoyed. Maybe that's because I really cared about the information being presented since I was purchasing. But I think it was more than that, too. Instead of having some teenager showing me all the cool apps on his phone and then drawing goofy pricing diagrams, this sales guy was professional and informative.
