Online Education Phone Shops

I have a phone shop this afternoon for an online academic provider. If anyone's done this assignment before or done phone shops in general, do you have any tips? I've read through the guidelines and done all that I can to prepare, but I'm nervous nonetheless!

Hello, guys! I have conducted a number of these "phone shops". First thing to do is RELAX. If you have someone to practice with, do so. Just have a regular conversation, but let the representative take the lead. You ask for someone who can assist you and then let that person question you about your needs. Don't give too much information, just answer the questions they ask. If they do not ask pointed questions (to determine your needs) make a note of this. Don't read from the guidelines. You do not want to sound "scripted". Be natural. I keep this in the back of my mind...

I want my child to have the best education in the world. Will this be the entity to provide it? How will I know unless I inquire.

Hope this helps.

Really have your scenario "down" in your mind. For me, I have thought about going back to school so used one of the things that I had considered. I've also pretended that I want to go back for the degree that I already have. So far, the hardest question that I wasn't expecting was the actual company name of where I work, and whether they have tuition reimbursement, etc.
I think Vocazilla just messed that up for me.
The call was supposed to be automatically directed to the area code of the phone you were calling from was from, but mine went to somewhere on the East Coast instead which definitely wasn't the state which I was assigned (which I learned at the end of the call.) And apparently, the person taking my phone call told me there was a lot of people who were calling in from the same number today and there was already an account made under the number that was showing up on the call-ID.

I just emailed the scheduler, but I think this creates a problem.

That is definitely not supposed to happen! Wow! I will be interested in hearing what the scheduler has to say about that. Definitely do not allow this to deter you from trying the phone shops again.

I'm not even worried about having to call again if I have to because it only took 20 minutes and I actually enjoyed it . . . But that seems problematic for all the shoppers who just called this one poor call center!
AndrewTX, after you call can you let me know if you were connected to the appropriate place?
And my scheduler is out sick sad smiley
Well, at least I know a lot about other schooling options now.
I found the on-line education shop to be the most BORING shop I ever did....not a fan of phone shops....I like being out in the field with all the action smiling smiley
I agree Sunny, I wouldn't take this again at $9. I see phone shops advertised all the time for under $2. Do those not have a report?

inskydiamonds, it was pretty straightforward. Read the survey ahead of time and note all the items that they might mention. I filled out part of my report before the shop, most during, and maybe 30% after I hung up.

I'm so thankful they asked how "scripted" the call sounded, because mine was as scripted as an overseas MarketForce scheduler!

Yep, I had no issues with the phone system. She made no comment about where I called from.

She did sound a little taken aback when I asked for her last name at the end of the call. That's definitely NOT something a normal customer would ask.

I wonder what went wonky about my phone call! I was told when I called though that there were several phone calls about the same issue today, so at least it wasn't just me.
I did one of these, and it took forever to get them to stop calling me! You have to be careful with these. There are different scenarios. Make sure that you read the guidelines and play the correct part. I took the passive parent one. It was very easy because I was supposed to let them take the lead, but I have seen other scenarios advertised. I haven't done those though. My first one was enough to make me say never again. I think it was about $8.00 when I did it. I placed the call during a break at my day job. I filled out the report that night. Between the call, the report and the non-stop follow up calls, I would put this in my never do again list.
They must have called me 6 times after that..... to ask me about the k-12 program...uck!
My wife did it and she said it was easy (report too). Problem is the kept calling us for almost a year to check if we still wanted the education package.
Can't you tell them to just stop calling? I have no problems with these or auto dealers - I just tell them I'm no longer interested. End of discussion, and no more calls.
Oh great! I guess I should have asked this before I signed up!

In other news, I think my cell phone is what caused the problem with the vocazilla thing. After googling around it seems some companies require you not use a cell phone when making a call via vocazilla and I'm assuming it's a call-id issue. This MSC didn't make this request, but I think maybe they should have since the call-id was crucial for the transfer of the call.
Interesting! I wonder why mine went to Massachusetts! Apparently the sassie system is Massachusetts based, so I think that's probably where the number coming up for my call-id came from. How frustrating. I'm waiting to hear back from the scheduler. Frankly, I don't really want to do the call again. Especially hearing they may be blowing up my phone in the future.
I have one of these shops today. My guidelines state, "If you are performing a call OUTSIDE of your corresponding area code, that is okay. However, you will have to ask to speak to a representative in the state to which you have been assigned." The guidelines also request that you do not block your phone number. I think I will use a telephone number that does not have an answering machine to avoid all the follow up calls. The price is going up on these shops my first one paid $7, the one for today pays $10.
Pooch, I don't know about the no answering machine idea. I think they might keep trying until they get you, and if you ignore their call there will be no end to the ringing. Of course on a cell you can just hit "ignore".

When I get follow up calls I let them go to voicemail. That way if the company requires any details on the call, I can always refer to the recording.

Of course at some point you may just have to say, "I'm no longer interested. Please put me on your 'do not call' list."

I called from a number in my corresponding state, that's why I didn't realize there was an issue until the end of the call when she started reading my MA laws. I also didn't block my number and I don't think my cell phone does immediately.
I am glad I read this thread ahead of my call. I knew how to handle the question when the consultant asked me if I was in Kansas - based on my telephone number. And I did give a number where she can leave a message for the call back on Friday. Interesting concept, the K12 TV commercials have been running for several days in Ohio.

I kept telling them not to call, but they still kept calling. I eventually got someone who did what they were supposed to and got me off the list, or maybe they just purge the numbers after so many months.
