Cricket (phone shop) has stopped chirping....

Bummer! Received an email from the msc that, due to AT & T acquiring Cricket, Cricket is discontinuing their shop program effective immediately. The phones are ours to keep, and service will remain live through the last month we pre-paid.

My kids have the two phones and will miss the free service.

Now, what do I do with these phones? Sell them?

Yes. According to the email Cricket's parent company LEEP Communications will be acquired by AT&T.

I may just keep the phones so my kids can play apps on the Wi-Fi.
Well, since Cricket doesn't use Sim cards on their phones if you choose to switch carrieres your phones would be useless. Depending on what you goy you might have a nice Android playing device + camera + radio + voice recorder...

Yeah, my plan's through Verizon and I love my iPhone. The Cricket phones are HTC One V's. Nice phones. The girls can still play their Temple Run and Candy Crush, at least.
To our shoppers,

As you know we were very excited having you work with us on our wireless lifecycle account. Recently, our client announced that is will be acquired by another firm. Today, we were devastated to receive notification that our client is discontinuing their shop program effective immediately due to the pending company changes. This was a promising new account for Measure and our shoppers and we are extremely disappointed by this turn of events. This decision is beyond our control and one that we have tried to have reversed.

We expect to learn more today and next week but this is what we have been told so far:

1. The devices are yours to keep or sell
2. You will be paid for all shops completed to date plus any device, plan or activation reimbursements associated with those shops
3. You will no longer need to complete any remaining shops for this particular client over the next few months (but we still want you for other shops)
4. Your phone and data services will remain live through the last month that you pre-paid and were reimbursed
5. Our client informed us that they are working on a promo code to extend your free service for three months should you wish

As we find out more details, we will keep you informed. As you can imagine, a lot of blood, sweat, tears went into winning and servicing this account. Please accept my sincere thanks for helping us to this point.

I'm sorry to hear this Robin. I do not blame MCP but this is really disappointing and upsetting news for me personally. I was literally begged by schedulers daily to accept this shop and I only did so because the 5 free months service would pay for me to get out of my existing phone contract. At&t really needs to stand by the obligations that Cricket made. I will be out $100's of dollars if we do not get the free service promo codes soon.

I had a shop that was due tomorrow and I just requested that it be canceled. I see no point in doing it and will let my contracts expire.
What the heck. I am going to do two shops tomorrow, but I have never received that email...
what should I do??????
I planned on selling my phones at the end of the 6 mos. anyway so now that AT&T bought Cricket, will that give me a larger group of possible buyers?
Does this mean that if we have not done the ones we are scheduled to perform, these will be removed from our inbox list of shops to be performed? Or do we still need to perform those in our inbox list of shops to be performed?

I do not think our prepaid phones from Cricket will be able to be used by regular AT&T customers. They operate on different cellular systems. At this point I'm not worried about the phone or the shops. My only concern is that we get the 3 months free service.

Ditto. The savings for the promised months of free service - along with the monthly assignment fee - was the big selling point for me in getting involved in this project.

My bill is due very soon. My fear at this point is that I have a matter of days to go out and buy a new phone and new phone service. I'm very concerned.
Sounds like the MSP is as upset about this as we are. They lost a lot of business too. I'm going to miss having two cell phones. I've been using the 2nd phone for shops where I have to give out a number.
I doubt the promo codes will be for free service. Just discounted. A little upsetting because I had a quirky shop where I went ahead and paid for the service and wasn't supposed to submit it til later this month. I'm waiting on them to change the due date so I can fill out the darn shop so I'm not out any money, and I'm sure they are busy with all this as it is. I've been using my phone as my own little mp3 player and have greatly enjoyed muve music. I will be sad to see it go.

Update:
We are providing the client with all the phone numbers from the activations. It is our understanding that they will be crediting everyone's account by 1pmMT Monday with 3 months free service. Will keep everyone apprised.

That is great news! I'm so relieved! This change could have really been a bad deal for me. Thank you so much for making sure things were done right! I really appreciate it!
Thank you Kimberly, it is being handled professionally!

I enjoyed Muve Music, much more than iTunes. The Shazam function was great, and I'll miss it sad smiley

I applaud the msc for their prompt attention, and for keeping all of us in the loop.
I got the email from the scheduler at KSS before I got it from MCP. I responded to the scheduler and asked about one that I was going to do after work today or tomorrow afternoon. He said NOT to do it.

I still have 5 months left on my Verizon contract, and the Cricket phone is just a cheap one that I got to do the shops. Since this was the first month that I was actually going to be paid for a shop (instead of just reimbursement), I basically did two shops for nothing. Add to that that the screen on the (I did say that it was cheap) Huawei phone cracked while I was carrying it around in my purse! I'll be selling/recycling the phone ASAP - just glad that I didn't bother getting it repaired. Therefore, I don't really care about the additional free months of service, and would much rather be paid something for my efforts to this point.

Kudos to Kimberly for not keeping us in the dark!

I have a question - I paid for this last month of service a little early - my due date I believe was the 8th of the month and I paid around July 25th or so - I can look it up and get the exact date. Will I be reimbursed for that month of payment, and how do I go about submitting that receipt now that this shop is cancelled effective immediately?

If someone from Measure Consumer Perspectives could post here and let me know - I'm guessing I may not be the only one with this question.

Thanks for any advice.

Maybe I should just send Andy at KSS an email with a digital pic of the receipt for my last month's payment attached?

Sorry that the chirping insects shop is no more......I was really starting to like it.
AT&T as many know uses a different msc to handle their shops and if they
choose to do shops on this brand they bought, then will probably use them.
They stated in their buyout announcement to investors that they are going
to keep this brand going for now. However, I don't think they will keep it
going long term as it makes no sense to have multiple prepaid brands. They
bought them for their spectrum licenses for upcoming auction.

Hopefully in any future contracts, MCP would be wise
to include a provision in the contract for cases like this in the event of
a buyout that new company has to fulfill contract. Especially with cell
phone companies where mergers and acquistions are frequent.

I did my shop just to try out the Galaxy phone before I invested in one with my current carrier. I figure I can sell the phone and hopefully break even. I did one for my daughter so she could have Internet on her phone. Yes, it's disappointing but things happen. I think MCP is truly trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation. Other than the confusion with this program start up, MCP has always been the most professional company I have worked with!
If you got a galaxy just get it unlocked and take it to new carrier and you won't have a contract. That contract is really about the subsidized phone not the actual service.

I know Cricket requires 6 months of continuous service to unlock an iPhone--not sure what their requirement would be for the Galaxy. I'm tempted to use one of the online sites but scared it will kill my phone.
Seems to me that if we get the additional 3 mos. svc. we could go in and tell them we are traveling to South America or somewhere outside of the States and request the phone to be unlocked. My question to you techy types - if I did that and it was unlocked would it remain unlocked forever?
