What is the biggest amount of money you ever lost or earned doing mystery shopping?

Mine just yesterday I lost $ 92 for 2 shops casual dining shops that got invalidated. The biggest fee I've had so far for doing mystery shopping is $ 320.00 for doing intercepts.

$12. I put in the wrong time in an Arches shop. I had actually gone at the right time, but didn't realized I messed up my report.

I haven't made a ton. I do small shops.
Two bucks, one in gas, one in the convenience store.

I lost $12 when I went to the wrong store. I did the job, had them sign the paperwork, took all the piks ect... just did not check the address. The worst part was the employees were laughing when I left because they knew I had the wrong shop. Oh well, live and learn.
Nothing so far. But then again, I've been only doing this (almost fulltime) since March.

The only time I've lost out: a $65 food and bar reimbursement for a shop with Nationwide Services Group, a company I successfully worked with from 2009-2012. This was a good company that paid on time. In Fall 2012 they abruptly stopped paying shoppers. The company appears to be out of business. Their Sassie site is still active but no jobs are posted for Canada or U.S.

I hate when a good company goes bad.
I lost 200.00 for a Colye restaurant in Vegas.....when doing the report, my computer got a virus and I couldn't do the report.
This was years ago, and Colye dropped me...no big lose, not putting our that kind of reimbursement any longer or doing those nightmare reports...I'm happy eating a bit simpler with a shorter report. The dinner was good, not that over the top.

Live consciously....
$68 for a hotel shop? Not to sound like a snob but how many places can you stay for $68 that you'd actually feel safe in?

Apparently we have different levels of comfort in the area of personal safety. I shopped many low budget hotels in the Freeman days and never felt unsafe.
Perhaps. I've hung out in South Central LA at 2am on a Saturday morning but won't stay in a hotel below the Hampton Inn / Courtyard / etc range.

Lost $12 on a crappy pizza because the MSC didn't like my photos (which were better quality than the ones they provide as an example, but it wasn't worth the energy to fight)

Earned $150 for opening a checking account. 2 hours total including driving and reporting time.
$6 in postage and a $10 shop fee. Wrong package weight.

I lost a $25 restaurant reimbursement because it all went wrong on the restaurant"s part and the manager, who was involved as he was staffing during the busy time, insisted I take a gift card for next time. When he read the report he recognized the scenerio and knew who I was (45 minute wait in the lot for a food pick up shop that was supposedly ready, then they did not include some of my food). So I was outed and can never do that one again...that is the real loss. I liked the place, easy shop, decent food and close to home.

Best fee....$150 for a payday loan...upcoming next week, same shop for $75.
I don't think I've ever lost a large amount of money before. Most of my shops that I've lost out on have been less than $15. My largest paying shop, however, was $120 for a tobacco compliance shop about two hours away from me. That and the casino shop I do for Bestmark from time to time that I get a $75 plus reimbursement for a room and buffet.

Making a living however I can.

The $68 was in rural hotel. It was very safe and clean. It was near where my son was going to college nearby, so I got in a visit with him at least.
Lost: $15 on one of those Walgreen's shops where you HAD to have the names of 3 associates and the cashier, and nobody wore nametags. Except for the manager. Who wore his clipped to his belt, so the only way I could read that was to stare at his crotch at the half-turned nametag. I got all names except one and they wouldn't accept it.

Best fee: $85 for opening a checking account. 45 days later, the bank put $150 in my account - $75 for setting up Bill Pay and $75 for setting up direct deposit (from my full time job). Score!
I always feel horrible when we can't accept a high-cost report, such as a fine dining report. I don't make the final call on those, so I'm not always sure whether we were able to make it work or not, but the biggest one I had to send to the powers-that-be was a $250+ dinner shop. I just felt sick... :-/

For the record: I am a proofer who works for a mystery shopping company.
Cell phone shop. The one and only shop I was never paid for. $20 bucks.

"And"----The one and only shop I will never shop again (see above) because no explanation was given and it sat there for months unpaid. Oh btw, their explanation of why I was not paid was bunk! smiling smiley.

Have a nice day, NOT! smiling smiley
Proofer guy,
When you post outside of the thread where you have already identified yourself as working for an MSC, PLEASE comply with forum protocol and attach a sig line clearly identifying yourself and an employee of IC and the MSC with which you are affiliated. Shoppers expect to know when it is not a shopper but, instead, an MSC affiliate who is chiming in.

This was already posted several days ago when you posted your intro on the New Shooper Welcome area, and you have since chosen to ignore it.

I believe he already stated that he did not want to disclose the company he works for because he's not here in an official capacity. I get the impression that the other option is he won't post here anymore. It's not like he's trying to be incognito. If people really have the big of a problem with it that's cool but for me personally it doesn't bother me any.

I would say the biggest amount I ever earned doing a shop (and they accepted the report with a score of 10 I'm proud to say) was $475 for a complex multi-part shop that was conducted over the period of a week. Like an actor playing a role, there were several interactions with a person then a final meet-up. The shop itself was great fun for me.

I lost $12 + $9 reimbursement for a restaurant that was a drive through and shopped as a dine in... Anyway, I had lunch, and I needed it. It was rescheduled, so no biggie.

Best paying shop, a $100 Resort / SPA - 2 nighter with LOTS of free food, a massage session, and some purchases included at the tobacco shop. I really enjoyed that one.

My best paying shop so far has been for $75 for evaluating a credit counseling service. I loved that shop as I had some leeway in the scenario and was able to be creative. The report was long but not overly tedious, and the associate I shopped pretty much did everything right. A very charmed shop. So far my only loss to date was not being reimbursed for a tip on a haircut shop and I'm not going to make it an issue as we are talking about $4 here and I still am getting reimbursed for the cut plus $10. Lesson learned here is if the shop says it reimburses the tip, to pay with a credit or debit card so there is a signed copy of proof I paid a tip.
$51 on an Applebee's shop because I did a to-go shop too early for dinner. I was supposed to go at 5:30 PM and went at 4:30. They rejected the shop. I was very upset.

Not going to jinx myself talking about losses smiling smiley but I did receive $125.00 for an education shop. So far I have run into some really great companies, thanks to this forum. As a result I have been able to find some decent jobs. Thanks all!
I lost a $40 reimbursement on a restaurant shop with my husband. We sat at a table (as instructed), but the table was in the bar area (had to be in the dining room). At least we enjoyed the dinner out. When it takes a month to get reimbursed, I don't count my reimbursement as income until I've been paid so it wasn't actually like I'd lost anything.
