Dear Narrative; I love you

Ok, maybe it's the cold beer(s?) I just drank...It is hot and I am Canadian.

But I just had a "Doh!!" moment.

I've recently begun writing a narrative of my shops before completing the associated survey. I listen to my recording, write as detailed as I can get and make sure I've met guideline requirements in the narrative.

Then I grab a cold drink (water while I write) and open the report.

The most recent jewelry shop report was sooo easy after I had completed the narrative. I copy and pasted 98% of the answers and the ones I did not answer in the narrative were simple questions.

I actually enjoyed writing the narrative. I wrote un interrupted, as opposed to reading a question and writing a response. Then reading another question....This made the flow of the narrative nice and detailed. It was fun to do the report!!! That's not something I have said very often in the past.

I also now have a record of my shop that will last forever (or until I spill beer on my hard drive).

So I am now converted to writing narratives first.

I know many of you old...I mean experienced veterans are thinking, " 'Sup Dawg? We be chillin' this way 4ever".

Well, I used to think it would take longer to write the narrative first. So let me tell you in the immortal words of John Pinette, "Nay nay!"

For me, writing the narrative first is much easier and more time efficient.

So to those who have been doing this since a galaxy far, far away, I join your ranks.
For those who disbelieve me, I raise my frothy glass and say, Enjoy what you do and how you do it. We are all different and I have just found my better way.

Cheers

I guess the only important question here is what brand of beer?

Her Serene Majesty, Cettie - Goat Queen of Zoltar, Sublime Empress of Her Caprine Domain
My favourite, Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale!

I think I might agree about liking narratives. I've done a couple non-narrative shops lately and I found it frustrating that I could only select their choices. My burrito wasn't that great but I had to select "great" since an "Ok" answer required that I select one of the problems listed and none of them matched! I'm beginning to wonder how reports without any narrative really help the client.
For many shops thy really are looking at data analysis for trends over time or to insure certain standards are met. Yes/no is much easier to do a computized data analysis on
But isn't it Jonathan Goldsmith who says that? The 'Most Interesting Man in the World'?

I am not sure of this, but Pinette has a great routine on Nay Nay
