You would have to be more specific about what "mystery shopper" is and what they are offering for the $50. Do you have a web address you can provide us?

Generally, the idea is to work as an independent contractor for mystery shopping companies and be paid NOT to pay them. What exactly do you get for the $50?

There's lots of free information here. Read and learn on your own - for free - and then sign up with some mystery shopping companies.
You don't EVER pay someone to let you shop, they are supposed to pay YOU. The companies listed on this forum are legitimate. You sign up with them, look at the job boards, receive emails telling you about jobs and go from there.

Mystery shopping is in no way a scam. There are a lot of ms companies out there, hundreds in fact. The vast majority of them are reliable, easy to work for, pay as they say they will, and some are listed with the BBB.

A company that solicites you to send them money so that they can 'train' you, and offer you 'quality shop listings in your area', is just a central job board that charges you to use their site. I had one call me and offer this deal to me. I asked a lot of questions, and found that their 'training' was simply links to the required client training that some companies ask for through the actual ms company providing the jobs....and the job board was only with companies that chose to list with them.

You can get free job boards, and there are a couple of job boards that charge a small fee that is less than the $50 this company asked for. The client training is provided free on the website of the ms company that is listing the shops for those companies that require it.

Do not pay them!

Shadow Shopper charges $4.95 a month. They offer free first month now for a trial BUT asks for your credit card number ahead of time. Is this a scam?

They keep bombarding me with emails with great shops but only available to $4.95/month Gold members. By great shops I don't mean fine restaurants or hotels, just $20 bank or retail. They are all right in my city.

If you need work, look at any of the companies listed at the bottom of the forum, under Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies, do a search on the forum page under Mystery Shopping Companies for the company you are interested in. See if they are slow pay, no pay, horrid assignments. Or they are the best ever, quick pay, nice assignments. If you still have doubts, look on the MSPA job board. Don't ever pay to play-you can lose money easily enough without giving it away.
Good luck.
