possible scam

i am holding a letter and check right now that must be a joke. it is worth $4,880.00 and i am suppose to spend small amounts@2 stores-the gap and walmart and i total$90.00for that. i get$600.00,and the rest goes to:western union and money gram transfers and service fees.this letter came from canada.it is suppose to be from spiesindisguise.com which really does check out as a real company-but,they have a warning about scammers pulling off what i believe i am holding in my hand. i am calling the bank it is from. don't use the phone #under the bank adress as it may hook you up to the scammers themselves.you must be very careful.i hope i spare some people some major grief.

I got the same thing!!! I was leary about it so I didn't try to cash the check. I still have it, but haven't gotten around to checking it out. I'm glad I took the time to read Laurel's post.
I wasn't so fortunate. I recieved a check for $2499.99 but before I did anything I called the number and they it was legitimate. I deposited the check spent the money send the moneygram and then problems came my way. The check was altered and I was now $1,996.89 in the red in my checking account.

Who are you to believe even when they say they are legitimate????

As a general rule, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. I am so sorry for your loss.

Speaking of Scams. do not respond to a e mail from Pay Pal asking you to
update your information. It is a fake Pay Pal trying to steal your identiry.
I refused to provide the information and called Pay Pal to ask why they
wanted a credit card number when I only use thelm as a despository. They
told me all about it.
Yes, that type of email is called a pfish. They frequently hit my spam box for banks where I do and do not have accounts, ebay, paypal and credit cards I do not have. They look VERY official and uniformly they have a link you can follow "to make it easier for you to resolve the problem". NEVER NEVER NEVER follow a link provided in these emails. If your account has a problem, sign in directly to the website of, for example, ebay or paypal or whomever. If there is a problem it will give you an alert there. Just to be on the safe side, my financial activity websites have been given an email address for me that is different than the email account that I use for signups for various things on the web (my junk email account). 99% of the pfish emails go to the junk email account so I know automatically they are fraudulent because my banks and credit cards and such don't even know that email account exists.
Jacob J, Why don't you paste this "scam stuff" to the login page, so Flash and other's can stop typing so much. Have ya seen what number post she is on, and at least 1/4 is on scams......LOL smiling smiley
This is a definite scam. You will send the moneygram and then their check will bounce. You need to report it to the police.
Here is a new one I just encountered. You get an E mail supposedly from Visa.
It says that you must confirm certain information or your account may be suspended. IT IS AN ATTEMPT AT IDENTITY THEFT. Visa deals only with the banks.
Visa coes not contact Visa card holders. If you get it, delete it immediately. The security department of my bank confirmed this and were alreadyk aware of it.
I received an e-mail from Paypal stating my account had been closed for questionable activity. I knew that this could not be the case because I had not used my Paypal account. I immediately contacted Paypal and was told that this is a scam to get my banking information. My god, what will they think of next?
I get the pay pal email about every other week. They have an addy that you can forward it to.

Market Force is the new name for Shop N Check. I've never had a problem with them. I've never had them reject a shop, I don't think they have even needed clarifications, and they have always paid in full. I don't do a whole lot for them because their fees tend to be low.
They don't pay well, but I've done a few grocery shops, and now the scheduler calls me with bonused ones, like $50 to do a grocery. That's how you move up the ladder, candodo. I've been shopping only 4 months.
I have done a lot of shops for Market Force. They pay promptly unless there is a problem with the shop. They are now one of the biggest companies around since joining forces with Speedmark and ShopNChek as well as several others. I have been doing work for Speedmark and ShopNChek for 5 years and have never had a problem with payment.
Candodo.........I do not know what the situation was for you at Market Force but I have worked for them over 3 years(shopnchek & speedmark). They are not a company that deserves to be posted under a topic named POSSIBLE SCAM...........they are reputable. Perhaps you should contact them and get clarification as to why your shop was rejected. Posting that they are a bad company seems unfair to them. I find they pay on time and IF you follow the guidelines and submit your report correctly, you are paid. I have not heard any other shoppers having problems with them.

My head is swimming. Don't even know where to jump in at. Will keep reading all your info and then start signing up. Jacob, in your email info, did you explain how to sign up with PAY PAL?

Gotta go rest and then we meet friend for dinner. Will log on tomorrow and read as much as I can. There seems to be several sites you all meet at. Which is the most general site I should log onto each day? Do you folks recommend getting your email forum responses in your email inbox? Will create Gmail account.
Happy Weekend, Bfriend.

bfriend, start with the New Mystery Shopper area when you first log in. The threads stuck at the top of that section give you some basic information on how it works and how to get started. It is perhaps a little more systematic than all the threads, which do tend to jump around as they are more discussion than instruction.
