Has anyone done a pet pricing shop?

I signed up for one. Good money, but I am getting so worn out. They worn you it will take up to 4 hours, and you might have to go back more than once. I did two hours two nights ago, and about an hour last night. Will have to go back tonight to finish. But they want you to write down all the sale items, which takes a really long time. The hardest part is you have to get the UPC codes. I have done that so far, but tonight, I will have to get the codes off the pallets on the floor. How am I supposed to get on my knees repeatedly to look at these UPC codes and not reveal myself as a shopper? It seems that the fact that you are there so long makes that very clear. I would love to have feedback from anyone about this.

Thanks!

What is a "pet pricing project?" Is it collecting prices at a pet supply store, or getting prices for animals?

One trick to use in certain kinds of stores (long shelves with not many employees in the aisles) is to take a cell phone photo of the product and the price posted underneath. That label contains the upc.

If you have a lot of prices to collect (I do lots of these; right now I am working on a 125 item international cost of living survey that pays $125 to get 4 prices each for the items.) is also good to use a hidden voice recorder (to look like you are listening to an iPod) with mic'd earpiece, like my iPhone has, and you can unobtrusively walk around looking spacey and "singing" while really mumbling prices/upc's to yourself.

Thanks Dee,

Yes, it is a pet supply store. I think I will definitely use my digital recorder this afternoon to finish up with the prices. The cell phone I have right now doesn't take photos. I do have a digital camera, which I can take. I'll try to do it, but the pallets I am talking about are in the center aisle. It is a long aisle, and I might get away with taking photos of the different pallets, but I will have to be careful, because there are so many of them.
I have carefully avoided that shop because of the requirements, but definitely is something I would do with the DVR. I would not trust my camera phone to make clear enough photos but I can certainly read a 9 digit UPC code to my DVR mic while pretending to be talking on the phone.
People complain about the iPhone camera, but it takes great images at a large size, so I use it almost exclusively for the photos I do on shops. My previous phone I would not have relied on, and it was brand new last august. The problem wasn't the megapix, but the limitations of the size image it would take. That made it not useable. My iPhone takes 'em at like 13 x 18 inches. So getting the upc up close is not a problem. I do whichever is more covenient for me at any given moment during the shop based on who is around, the location of the shelf, etc.

I too have done this shop. I see how it could be difficult and I wont do it again. I was lucky because the shop I picked (I didnt know this at the time) is an upscale very small pet store. The total area in the store is about the size of my living room and kitchern put together. They only carried upscale brands, none of which were on the list and the never have any animal food on sale EVER. The object of the shop was to get sale items including UPC. I sent in my report and they tried to tell me I didnt do the shop correctly at first. I will see if I get paid or not.
