Does anyone here actually have an income over $50,000?

That doesn't seem odd to me. Clients often want to be shopped by someone matching their typical demographic. Luxury cars, high end homes, fine dining are all examples (though some merely ask you to you play the part... it's not like you have to show a 1040 to accept the shop).

I am sure there are more than a handful of shoppers who earn over $50,000 at their day jobs.

Shopping since 1995; full-time since 2009. Blogging about shopping on www.myfrugalmiser.com.
I can think of some posters here that quite possibly make that. I work four days a week and make about $25,000. However, once you start deducting my vehicle costs it's considerably less than that.
My wife and I are close to $50,000, but not there yet.

Not scheduling for ANY company.
Market value for most people in the "techie" world (some system analysts, project managers, etc.) make at $50000 or over. We seem to have a lot of techie people on here.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.

No it was for a steakhouse
I think in urban areas it's probably easier and necessary to make that much if you want a decent lifestyle...and most of the steakhouses I know with that requirement are in major cities.
When I apply for the shops, I always count my family income, not the money that I make. In the area where I live, 50K is not that much.
Our job is not to question the guideline requirements but to follow them. It is a scary thing trying to get inside the head of some of these clients. I gave up a long time ago.

I made $60k before I lost my job due to Obamacare. I can still qualify for those shops using my husband's income though.

Most of the companies ask for annual household income.
How does someone lose their job over something that hasn't even started yet?

The cost of living in STL is actually pretty good so $50,000 a year would be okay for a single person or a couple with no children.

When do you think companies started paying for the program? Yes, January 2013 companies started paying for the program. Apparently you don't follow the news very closely, this is nothing new. Thousands of people have already lost their jobs because the companies couldn't afford to pay them and the new insurance premiums.
I got an email a couple of years ago from a scheduler looking for someone who had $2 million in assets. Not someone who could portray that, but actually had it. I jokingly sent her an email saying oh yeah, I definitely have that and more. Imagine how bad I felt when she called me less than 5 minutes later - I thought it was obvious that I was joking but I guess not. She said she knew of shoppers who had that kind of money. Mmmmkay, pumpkin.
$50k is not that much money, I've made more than that more times than not the last 10 years.

Tech, that actually made me laugh out loud. I can see I'm clearly outnumbered here by a bunch of liberals. That's ok, I've never been one to shy down from my beliefs based on what others say.

I have a sister and an aunt who are business owners and both have had to layoff employees, so don't try to tell me what you "think" you know. In fact, my aunt and uncle who have owned their business for 24 years are very likely going to have to shut down because they can't afford to pay the premiums and fees. You really shouldn't speak on something of such great importance when you don't have a damn clue what you're talking about.
Speaking as a merchandiser first and a mystery shopper second, I have received emails from at least 4 different merchandising companies that state you can't work more than 25 hours in a week due to the new health care system. Many of these companies are hiring additional part time workers because we are all now on limits so that they do not have to pay health insurance. Some reps were working 40-50 hours per week during the heavy cosmetic reset season. They are now losing a big chunk of their hours because of the "Affordable health care".

Bearclaw14 ~ Take a chill pill and stop attacking LisaSTL and techman01. They know more than you may think.

And before you start jumping all over my case, I partially agree with you that Obamacare has already started to sink its teeth into businesses in 2013. My copays have almost doubled from 2012. And my company is not paying as high of a percentage towards benefits as they used to. So more is coming out of my paycheck every two weeks and I am paying more per medical visit.

But you can't blame the downfall of all small businesses on Obamacare. There is a little thing called a bad economy. We are still feeling the effects of all the crap that went down a few years ago. The housing market taking a dump did more damage than a new healthcare rollout.

Well, this is really getting off topic now and we don't need to start a big political debate. I mainly wanted to come to the defense of my "friends." Now back to making $50,000+!

Many shops have minimum lifestyle requirements for household income and education level. It's not like they are going to come to your house and find out. It's all part of the B.S. they use to sell the service to the client. They must lay it on pretty thick when the client believes that someone who can realistically act like they can impulse buy an $80000 car will work for $17 for two hours. Aim low and disqualify yourself from the better shops. Don't dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want.

Yes, I am currently an employee with all of these companies.

I even had one of my supervisors (who I have known for 4 years) tell me in a phone conversation that it was a shame that some of her most dedicated employees were not going to be able to work as many hours due to the 25 hour limit imposed due to Obamacare.

It didn't seem a shame that the company was utilizing a loophole to continue not providing insurance for their workers?
Yes, by quite a bit. And we are middle/lower middle income for this area. A school my children attended for a few years considered 'middle income' for scholarship purposes to be anything under 200K. 50K isn't anything approaching a living wage here.
The median household income has recently been just above $50k for the US (since around 2006), so I think the requirement is probably based on wanting shoppers from the upper half of that statistic.

A quick googling brought up a list of medium incomes for various Los Angeles communities. Not so surprising that the hardest ones to schedule shops for are amongst the top ten are listed here:

1 Bel-Air $207,938
2 Hidden Hills $203,199
3 Rolling Hills $184,777
4 Beverly Crest $169,282
5 Pacific Palisades $168,008
6 Palos Verdes Estates $167,344
7 San Marino $158,855
8 La Cañada Flintridge $148,996
9 Rolling Hills Estates $145,628
10 Malibu $138,215

In one of the more surprising stats, Bev Hills falls pretty far outside this top 10

37 Beverly Hills $96,312

..and one of the most embarrassing parts is that my neighborhood was dead last:

265 Downtown $15,003

Interesting that one of the very steakhouses that spurred this discussion is located within walking distance of me, however.
$50,000 would be seriously below the median income in my country, just outside of Washington DC.
