Voice Recorder Recomendations

I've only been at this for a month and I've been using the voice recorder on my Samsung SG4 and a USB drive disguised as a recorder.

The USB thing lasted about 3 or 4 times before it 'broke', gives error message when inserting in computer.

The recorder on the SG4 failed me twice. I think it's effected by movement.

Anyone have a recommendation for a reliable, concealable voice recorder?

I just happen to be looking at mine right now believe it or not (I was going to plug it into my computer to charge it) and it's a Sony. 4GB micro SD card slot USB Direct PC Link Model ICD-UX523 that I bought at Amazon.com for about $60

I use it all the time and it's never failed. I bought stereo earphones for it and the sound's amazing. The speaker sound isn't the greatest but you can hear it no problem. It also has up to 5 folders and hold about 1000 hrs recording, if my memory serves me right. It's got a T-mark button and a lock button so you don't accidentally stop the recording. It also works great with an external microphone if you choose to go that way. It also has a speed control (slow the recording down during playback) and it's got a noise reduction button (on or off)

Ok..back to watching Pawn Stars. Good luck with whatever you buy.

I use Supernote on my smartphone. Works fantastic and no-one thinks twice when I put my smartphone and purse on their desk.
When I get a smartphone, I may try it out. But, I like my recorder because it's small and can be put in a pocket and still picks up everything. smiling smiley
billk40..Voice recording...I use my iPhone and downloaded iTalk (its a free app) It works great. You must remember to turn sound off, and also under settings (make sure your phone is on Airplane Mode). Being in Airplane Mode makes sure no one calls you and interrupts your recordings.. Once completed, go back into settings and unclick Airplane Mode.

You can send recordings via email or if too large you can transfer recording to DROP BOX, obtain a link from DROP BOX, and send the link to you shop.

Hope this helps.
I bought a covert recorder when I got hired by Coyle

Anyway, I feel like the only one who got something from that deal was the company that makes the recorder. It was helpful to me, but no more so than a smart phone app. I felt like I had to listen to the recordings since I made the purchase, which ran up my reporting time.

I own an Olympus DV recorder with the usb slide connection and have used it for eons. They are very inexpensive if bought reconditioned on ebay, or about $65 at a big box store. Since I do a lot of long (90 minutes or more) recorded shops, my smart phone just does not cut it. With the DVR I get up to 13 hours of recordings, in individual files; the files can go directly to my computer, without any conversion or special software; during recording, I have both hands free to open car doors, test drive a car, pick up and admire a product, or do other things normally done without a phone in one hand. Unlike Michael, I do not feel compelled to listen to the parts of any recording unless I actually do not remember what occurred. I don't take orders from my DVR.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I also need the information. However, I have a Windows8 Smartphone, sadly. So, I need something that works with that. When I can, I am switching to another OS!

I have a Sony ICD-PX820 Digital Voice Recorder. It fits in my pocket and has a hold switch so that I cannot accidentally stop it. When I get home I connect it to my laptop via a USB cable and transfer the recordings. While doing my report I listen to the recording through my laptop as needed. Works great.
I have the same recorder as Walesmaven and it had the clearest sound quality, but it conked out after 7 years. Last year I bought a Sony DVR as it was cheaper than Olympus, but it was not clear - picks up a lot of static and background noise. I hate it! I use my iPhone recorder, but it is really easy to accidentally turn it off. I will have to look into iTalk. When I make calls from using my car's bluetooth, I cannot record on the iPhone, so I still need to use a DVR.

I got one on ebay for about $16. looks like a flash drive and is so sensitive I must put it my back pocket or my voice just blasts. One day I forgot to turn it off and it recorded my entire 10 hour day.
I have a SanDisk MP3 player/recorder. it is 1" x 2.25" x 1/4" - I clip it to my bra & shop away. Downloading to the computer is very easy. It was less than $50. My android phone is too touch sensitive so I have to be very careful. Much easier to use the clip on recorder in my opinion.

Just an update....Airplane mode solved the problem.....now recording works like a charm. Thanks!!!
For what it is worth - I use an Olympus VN-4100. This no doubt has been updated since I bought it several years ago. Works great - can hide it in a jacket or shirt pocket and picks up the conversation. About 4" x 1.5" X .5"
Hi. I'm not very technically savvy. I am interested in a dvr to help with the timing in restaurant shops. What feature do I look for that will tell me at what time in minutes and seconds I am in the recording? For example, so I'll know how long it took for the entrees to arrive from when I ordered? Thanks! I am new to all of this, and this forum has been a HUGE help!

I use the same as Canuck, and I love it. ICD-UX523. The sound organizer program that comes with it has a waveform mode that allows you to track when talking is happening, so you can skip dead space while trying to find specific times on your playback. Since I keep it in my purse, I sometimes have a small amount of muffling, but have found that it has picked up everything I have needed so far.
Bayberry, I just downloaded a stopwatch app for my android phone. It's free, easy to use, and it does split timings too. I also have a voice recording app and it's great. I stick my phone in my front pocket and it looks normal and records for a few hours on one charge.

Floating around like a feather hoping the wind will set me down somewhere awesome.
I love my MemoQ pen recorder. It comes apart and can tuck into my bra (someone here suggested that and boy, it has worked great. I used to have to stick it in a pocket. Excellent clarity and hours of recording time. Plugs right into my USB port on the computer, no cords needed.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
