shops in my area

I am a newbie when it comes to mystery shopping. Can anyone tell me how I find out which companies have more shops in my area. I don't really want to sign up with all those companies if they don't have any shops in my area. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Jobslinger helps for sure, but you should sign up for as many companies as you can since you never know when they will start shopping in your area.
It is a hassle but it can pay off!

I have about 75 companies that I have never done a job for, but have registered with. Every once in a while I get a desperate email from one of them, begging for help.

I get a bonus, and a chance to move another company from my "untried" list to my "B" list. Then I start watching them regularly to see what else pops up. Eventually some of them make it to my "A" list.

"A" list companies are the ones that I do work for every month. My "A" list only has about 10 companies, my "B" list has about 40.
Yes, jobslinger is where you will see who is in what area. But as someone else posted in antoher thread, signing up with all those companies is a right of passage. The most important thing here is that contracts change, but you will be in the databse forever (unless we talking Market Force or Certified but that is another thread LOL) so when they do get work in your area, you should get contacted.

Even though it means nothing, I think it's worth the minimal expense to get silver certified. Once I did that I had more emails coming in. A few companies claim to offer to certified shoppers first.

Build a rapport with schedulers, do them a favor (not just self-assign shops), and never ever be late or bail on a shop. You will find yourself getting more work.
Has anyone had this happen to them? I registered on the Prophet master site which sent out my info to all the prophet companies. About a dozen of them activated me as a shopper withing about a week. Now I find job listings in my area on shadow shopper and jobslinger with some of the other prophet companies. But when I try registering with them specifically, I can't, since they already have my application on file. Yet, they are not activating me either, in spite of having shops in my area. What can I do about that? Am I basically stuck, until they feel they need my help and finally activate me?
Nope, never had the problem. Quite often I have found I don't need to sign up. I just pop in my email address and my most usual password. If it doesn't work then tell the site you forgot your password and often it will send it along. There are several Prophet companies I regularly work with that I never received an acceptance email from.
Thanks Flash. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I tried it with BMA just last week. When I tried to register it said they have my application on file. When I tried to login they said invalid user/password. When I went to the "Forgot your password" link and entered my e-mail, they said my e-mail is not in their active shopper database. So I know for a fact that I am not active. But Coast-To-Coast currently has shops in my area that they are scheduling for BMA. I even e-mailed the scheduler to see if he can do anything. He replied saying he can't help me and I have to wait to be activated. sad smiley Oh, well.
Call them up or send an email asking if they might activate you. I have done it when I see shops in my area but remained in no man's land, and it worked for me.

Wow, just got a response from BMA. I've been approved!!! Good to know that direct contact is actually an option. I thought it may annoy them. But seems like they just miss your application sometimes and need a little nudge smiling smiley
Yay!
