paypal issues

About a month ago I kept getting a message that I needed to give them my SS # or EIN number. I posted about it. I ignored it and went about my shopping business. About a week ago I thought it was odd that I didn't seem to be getting paid for shops. I got no emails saying I was being paid or that paypal was having an issue for me. Today I found out that one shop was paid to me the other day only I never received it. When I contacted the company they said Paypal denied me and I should check my address. I did and it was ok. Now I am sitting on hold with Paypal trying to figure out what the problem is. I now see other companies say I've been paid but I haven't. UGH I don't know how I am going to get this all straightened out. Anyone else had this issue?? I've got a feeling it has to do with the EIN or SS#.

that means you have either received too much money via paypal or
they project you will and they want a tax id so they can report it to
the irs. The irs forced them to provide information about money being
moved through them somewhat recently based on certain criteria that
paypal agreed too...

You need to submit your SS# or EIN# and then you will be paid. If you have a yahoo.com e-mail address, sometimes that causes a problem. There is a way to fix that without changing your e-mail address but off the top of my head, I don't remember the procedure.

Just finished talking to paypal and you hit it on the head. I wish I had known this weeks ago. I do have a yahoo address but not as my primary. Now I have to go and figure out who tried to pay me through paypal and didn't get it through. No one bothered to email me about the issue. Frustrating. Hope others are not in this same boat.
Do we know what that number is? I have heard $20,000 in deposits but I have not seen anything official.

Well I was told those numbers only had to do with reporting to the IRS. I was told that I needed to put in my SS or EIN. What a mess.............geez.

Michael, that's my understanding as well but don't know where to find that "in writing." If you reach $20,000 in receipts through PayPal, they have to issue a 1099 for tax-reporting purposes. I think this started for tax year 2011 or 2012.

I'm in no danger of reaching that, but I have two colleagues who come close every year and always worry about that....

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
while paypal official number i believe is still 20k.....they also deviate from it on an
as needed basis and will request more information from you if their
"risk model" determines you could be moving money. Though it is seemingly
random on who they target from random ebay sellers to those that just
send money between family/friends.

My understanding is it is 200 transactions AND $20,000.

I've had PayPal lock me up a few times asking for information to prove who I am. The first time is was SS#. Then they wanted a copy of my drivers license. Then they sent me a snail mail with a code I had to input. Then they wanted utility bills. Then they locked me out altogether. I set up a new account and haven't had any problems yet, but I've also switched to direct deposit or mailed check whenever the MSC allows it.
