(Not so) secret shop coffee shop

I shopped a well-known coffee-house chain yesterday. Thing was . . . it was located in an employee-only food-court deep within the corporate headquarters of a major company. Per the special shop instructions, I had to call the location manager the day before and let him know when I was coming, so that he could meet me at the security checkpoint and escort me to the food court! He said he wouldn't tell his staff I was coming. The shop went perfectly, of course. I'm sure the big "visitor" badge around my neck didn't clue the barista in either. As he was walking me out of the facility, the manager mentioned that they always seem to score really highly on the shop. I wonder why?

I think you're overthinking this shop, Mitchk. Any visitor to the corporate office will have to wear the "visitor" badge and I suspect they get more visitors each month than you would suspect. In other words, I don't think you really stood out.

However, I am really sure that the manager said nothing to tip the barista off. Also, the fact that the manager is escorting would be a sign. We have some coffee shops in our food court at my work and I keep looking for them so I can take them and haven't seen any yet.

Yeah, even if the manager really didn't say anything about the guest being a shopper, the fact that the guest was brought over by the manager would be a hint that excellent service should be provided to that customer. smiling smiley
