Question about mileage

I am really trying to 1-do more mystery shops this year and 2-stay organized as I do it! I currently do home services as my full time job. I provide services in several towns around me. If I do a shop between 2 of my sessions for my full time job can I claim mileage. I have also seen different information, but if I start at home and go to 1 shop do I claim mileage for that shop?

Thanks for all your knowledge!

Another hint on taxes and mileage, if you have not done so, go out and immediately write down the mileage on your car as of NOW! The tax return will want to know the odometer reading as of 1/1/14- 12/31/14 or the same for 1/1/13 - 12/31/13 for this last year. That is just my helpful hint.

Mileage must be actual and must be recorded from one point to another. If I am reading you right, you are picking up assignments between other unrelated jobs, as I used to do. Record your OD readings as you leave for the MS assignment(s) (regardless of where you are) and until you reach your non MS destination(s)...........that could be your home or your other job. Your tax consultant may have a handy "car friendly" tool for this. You can add up the miles from there.

My tax consultant has never asked for odometer readings, just total miles for my MS work and total miles for the other job.
