Shipping Shop

I've completed a few of the postal and postal competitor shops and have always used a box. If I am sending a stack of magazines, does anyone know if I am allowed to use a poly mailing envelope? Thanks for any information of this!

I almost always send magazines and I almost always use the bubble envelope type.

Thank you so much! I've been looking all over the house for a box and of course I can't find one. I don't want to make an extra stop tomorrow to buy a box with the bad weather coming!
The shipping shops are very explicit with their instructions. The "A" shops require a box. The "B" shops require a Ready Post item, which can be a box or an envelope, that you select at the post office and put your items in it as a part of the shop. As for the competitor shops, I would have to review the guidelines.

A shops do say box, but they would have no way of knowing if you did use a bubble pak unless they pull cameras. Even then, I don't imagine they'd do much about it. I ship on a regular basis (daily lots of stuff). It matters less than you think. I've yet to have anyone measure my boxes. Just the weight.
Hmmm,

Meaggiej, I hope you are not saying what I think you are saying. To me it matters a hell of a lot. It's called integrity, honesty and credibility.

Just email the scheduler. I have been told by Jeff Rose it doesn't matter what you use just meet the weight.
That is correct, you just have to meet the weight so that it ships the right mailing class. The scheduler told me that they use the word 'box' in a generic sense....meaning a vessel to ship a package.
I have always thought they wanted a box so the contents would not be obvious enough that the employee wouldn't feel the need to ask those six required questions. If you're shipping magazines and the employee can feel them through the envelope (which I have had happen many times when doing the Scenario B visits), the employee might skip on the questions, which defeats part of the purpose of the shop. They do use the word "box" many times in the guidelines, so I have always played it safe and gotten boxes with no markings as the guidelines require.

That said, I have never specifically asked a scheduler. I probably should, since I usually go over the reimbursement amount when buying those silly boxes.
I have done a zillion (well maybe not that many) of these shops and the box is generically used...a bubble wrapper is fine. The weight is the big deal here.

The weight is what throws the package from first class into priority that is why that is so important. Regardless of what the clerk *thinks* is in the package, they are supposed to be asking all of those questions. What if I was sending magazines with a lithium battery package as well just for fun? If they didn't ask, they wouldn't know.
Perhaps box is used in a more generic sense. I haven't seen that from any scheduler and if that is the case I apologize for me earlier comment.

Walmart and Walgreens both sell inexpensive small boxes.

Even staples sell small boxes for less than $1.50. Walmart has the cheapest, they're like 50 cents for a medium size. I didn't know about Walgreens, thanks Mary.

Yes, some get bonused near end of month or shopping period. They are usually leftover or boonie shops or in areas where I guess there are few shoppers. I got an email just yesterday for a bonused Ready Post shop at $30. Of course it was about 200 miles from me. But don't be holding out for it. Most of them are scheduled within days at the offered rate around here.

I just love it when I can combine them with an Ebay shipment...I consider it a win-win.
