Nightmare reports

Thought I would start a new thread about nightmare reports, which sometimes worth it when you get paid a lot or receive other perks, like a free hotel stay.
Just to clarify, I don't mind writing a story describing what happened from entering location to exiting. What I don't like is redundant questions that are time consuming.
So far most harsh for me were:
Cirrus marketing apartment shop, which was worth it considering good reimbursement.
Sandwich shop from ACL that only pays reimbursement and it takes 2 hours to complete the report for it, not worth it IMO.
Sentry marketing diner report that is time consuming and pay is not that great, food is nothing special either.
Auto dealerships from Interllishop, a lot of narratives and redundant questions, plus at least an hour at the location, all these for $17.
Photo audits from Marketforce because it takes forever to upload those photos, you might also have to resize them.

What are the worst reports you worked on?

I would agree about the Intellishop auto dealer assignments. You can reference these on earlier threads in terms of time v. money. Targeted shops also pose a time v. money problem whether it be an apartment manager or cosmetic consultant as you try to track them down on your own time.
I agree about targeted shops. Done one recently for Macy's running around different departments looking for a targeted employee and only in 30 minutes I was allowed to ask for the employee and of course the employee decided to leave earlier that day.
I very rarely take a targeted shop. I find I have enough work without having to put myself through that!
I did an adidas shop once or twice that I thought was a nightmare. Others include, of course, IKEA and those pesky airport shops with redundant narratives galor.

Mark Twain
I referred a friend to a family fun center shop...she took her SO, her 10 year old son, and his classmate. It was her first shop for the company, so when her son was ill that morning, she decided to not cancel or reschedule the shop.

Ten-year old said he felt better in the afternoon, so off they went. Bowling, food, laser tag -- fun, fun, fun! But halfway through the shop, 10 year old got really, really sick -- "mom, I think I want to lay down in the car"..."but you go ahead and finish working, I'm just really, really tired"...so she put her son in the car, finished the 3 hour shop.

On the hour drive back home, 10-year old says, "mom, I think you better take me to the hospital -- I'm really, really sick".

Forty-five minutes after arriving at the ER, son is in operating theatre, having emergency surgery to remove his appendix!

Shopper has only her cell-phone. She told me it took 10 hours to complete the report, because of doing it on the cellphone (her laptop was 2 hours away, back at home). She finished the report just
as son woke up after surgery.

The sad part: she only got an 88 rating on the report!

The good part: that 10 year old really "cowboyed up"! Telling his mom to finish up her assignment!

I did an asset investment shop and met with an adviser for 90 minutes. I thought he would never stop talking! The report was a nightmare because I had to explain all yes and no questions in the narratives and remember how many open-ended questions I was asked. If I remember correctly, one narrative alone was two pages long in Word. After submitting the report, I thought for sure I would be asked for clarification, but I didn't hear a word from the MSC and I got paid.

I did investment shop for MarketForce, wasn't too bad, one hour at the location + one hour for report but i would probably avoid taking investment shops from other companies.

Gosh no! I LOVE ACL!!! They are my favorite for FD and their hotels are the easiest (not talking about <EDITED FOR ICA VIOLATION> hotels). The schedulers respond the same day. If I really need to talk to someone while on the shop, they're there to answer the phone. I love their editors because they are nice whether they love my report or not...their critique are spot on and well...nice.

I haven't joined yet, but GuestCheck sounds awful. Right away when you are trying to apply it tells you there are 17-20 pages of written text, plus score cards. restaurants narratives are average no less than 3 pages!

This better pay $400 plus reimbursement
I have shopped hotel and resorts for GuestCheck. Their report formats are cumbersome, but do-able. Their hotels are not for someone not experienced. Their fee is much higher than the other msc paying from $0 to $75, but you are literally writing a book.

Reports I detest:

-MF vitamin store audits. Take about 30 photos and upload for $15 pay? Nope, not gonna fall for that one again.

-Maritz banking shop. Way too much work for $9 pay. And they made me rescan and upload every photo because I forgot to write the job # on them.

- Bestmark reports for a well-known pharmacy. You will not "Be Well" after doing these.

-Spies In Disguise have some cumbersome reports.

-I won't do any work for Amusement Advantage. Reimbursement only, and they warn you that their reports take 8 hours!

I like these audits. The store I usually do is always in compliance so I never have that many photos to upload. Usually just the required ones and sometimes 1 or 2 more.
I quit the vitamin store audits after they slashed the fee. It did pay somewhere between $28 and $35 originally. Just today I saw another of their photo audits had dropped. Originally the fee was somewhere north of $10 and then settled in at $9 for a while. Now they have it at $7 and my guess is they expect you to be on site for a minimum of 30 minutes before spending close to the same amount of time on their one question per page reports and the tedious photo uploads.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.
"I prefer someone who burns the flag and then wraps themselves up in the Constitution over someone who burns the Constitution and then wraps themselves up in the flag." -Molly Ivins
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
Gas station audits that want to pay you $9 for more than an hour at the location. That does not include all the time it takes to upload the piks (sometimes that takes longer than the report). I will do them but my fee is now $25 - until I see that on the board they can just sit there.
My nightmares? Any shop that has a survey with a final question that reads something to the effect of, "Please describe your complete visit in full detail from beginning to end. Explain all answers to all questions above." I am glad to write a detailed narrative when necessary and relevant, but reiterating every single question in a complete sentence when a simple "yes" should suffice is frustrating.

As an aside, photo visits become a lot easier to report when I stop off at the library (or somewhere else with lots of Internet bandwidth) and report from there. On my home connection, I can easily spend an hour uploading photos; if I report from the library, the photo upload portion of it is usually knocked out in seconds.

Same here....It's gotta be a juicy shop, I mean really juicy and lucrative before I'll accept it if it's a targeted shop. Just not worth the hassles.

You are not alone - I like ACL too. I have a nice restaurant shop coming up for them and it's reimbursement only BUT it's a for a place I have wanted to go to for years. So it's nice to go, have a nice lunch and then get reimbursed for it. Sometimes reimbursement only works.

I think all of these shops are not created equal. Case in point, I just did a similar shop and it was very light narrative and truly easy to get through and it paid $18 - not especially high but for the amount of work involved, I'm not going to complain.

Just gotta ask.....I know the pharmacy you speak of, are the reports really that bad? Heavy narrative, very repetitious, or ?
I find that pharmacy report relatively easy compare to others I worked on. What I don't like is that for the past two months I saw that shop for $15 and did few of them and now I see them for $13. WTF?
I recently did my first ACL shop and found it ok. I didn't like the Maritz bank shop b/c it was too time consuming considering the pay. I can't stand the Confero sandwich shop.

I have done one targeted apartment shop and although it was a PITA it was probably worth it. Doing a variety of shops has also made me a better consumer. I didn't know anything about sales techniques previously.

PS This thread is very helpful.
Ellis apartment shops are over the top! First they ask you to completely describe every detail on it's own then at the end do another essay on the shop starting when you drive up to when you leave. Can't they just cut and past all the previous answers into one essay? I have started doing the report in Word and when I get to that end question I just cut and paste all my previous answers to their questions together (i.e. entrance, greeting, professionally dressed/name tag, route to model/apt, décor, closing, etc), Saves about half an hour.
