New car shop

Looking for anyone who has done Nissan car shops. I was emailed about a car shop but did not get many details until I accepted. It seems really involved and I'm afraid I may flub it. I have only done a couple of other new car shops and they felt a bit weird because I am used to going car shopping with my spouse. I'm reading the guidelines and wondering if maybe I should not confirm this shop.

Anyone have an idea about how difficult these shops are?

Depends, did you take it at the offer rate of $17? The one I did was bonused quite well so I took it, even though I had heard the shops were tougher than the other auto shops I've done. It wasn't that bad, I figured 2 hours total between shop and report time. I would consider doing one if it was over $35-40.

I've done a few. If you have to watch a doofus read from a teleprompter every time you try to access the report, it's long and narrative heavy, has trick questions, and is watched closely by the editors, because the dealership is not the client and they know they can't verify anything. The dealership version is easier.

The offer rate was $27. That is why I jumped on it.

I'm not sure what you mean, Michael. Can you explain your reply, please?
It is a stupid "training" video or some such nonsense. Rather than have it appear just in the guidelines or the printable version of the form, it is right there on the report form. Every time you save your report and go back in the damn things starts up again. So instead of just being able to jump straight to the first blank I end up having to scroll to that and shut it off. Often my shops for the client are video. I like to have the video running in the background while filling out the report and their video interferes with the sound.

I've done several of these. They are not difficult, and the time required depends on the salesman. One told me about every detail of the car, the history of the dealership, tried to insist that I take the car home with me to try it out, and made a strong attempt to make a sale, so that report takes longer to write up all that detail. The other three salesman have been mostly silent and did not make any effort to make a sale, so those were quick, easy visits.
So they tell you what vehicle to shop, but then say to shop the newest vehicle on the lot. Uhm....how am I going to know which is the newest vehicle on the lot?

I'm getting a little scared here.
You are looking for 2014's. they may still have some new 2013's.

By newest, they don't mean the last one to arrive. That want to certain you are shopping the current model year and not a used car. You could ask for a 2014, but if they don't have one you could shop a 2013. Multiple times I have had a salesman heavily push a preowned when asked for new.

sasukhram, I love you! My mind works exactly like that and I, no doubt, had that same thought on my first new car shop. My husband and I have had a lot of laughs over my literal interpretations.

There is a Porsche shop around me that i was tempted to take.. but I didn't wanna travel and mess it up.. Im sure Porsche wants some superb narrative

Also have the Nissan but not going to take it at $17, just doesn't seem worth the hassle.
I just took my first Nissan shop in over a year because it was bonused to $27, and I'm driving right by the dealership enroute to some other shops.

The report is PITA. I'm staying away from these shops unless they are bonused $40+
You must go on a test drive if offered so it's an hour at the dealership + at least an hour to write narratives. Plus be ready to be harassed by dealership emails and calls, as for this shop you are required to provide your contact information and see if the salesperson follow up with you within 3 days.
I think I will try it. I don't see too many shops in my area for $27 so at the very least I will have driven a new car and gotten valuable experience, right? ;-) Who knows - I may do a good job and get paid! LOL

Glad I am not the only weird one here! LOL Kidding! But thanks - I realized when I got the answers that I had asked perhaps not the brightest question, but your post made me feel much better. :-D
I've taken Nissan at $45 and $55 recently. The first one was BORING, the second one was probably my best shop ever. The guy was an amazing salesman.

sasukhram, other people don't share our "gift" and often misunderstand. Our "gift" is similar to being psychic albeit nowhere near as useful. Trust me when I tell you that it will give you a lot of laugh-out-loud moments throughout your life and, that unto itself, is definitely a gift!

PS
Gotta tell about when I was in third grade and the six graders came in to give our class Lincoln's Gettysburg address. I had my pencil and paper out and was excited, but ended up feeling really miffed when all they did was say this boring speech.

So I did the shop. Great shop. Salesman was great, and I love getting all this experience ahead of time for the next time when I really do need a car. Except for one thing. Forgot the restroom. :-( Things were going so well and then I realized I had been there for amost an hour and a half that I plumb forgot until I was miles down the road and filling out the questionnaire. Couldn't go back at that point, especially since I was supposed to be meeting a friend. Ugh. Now what? Schedulers aren't there on weekends, and I'm not sure they will be there Monday either. I'm supposed to wait 72 hours for the follow up. I've already emailed the schedulers and asked how they want to handle it.
If it says New can't the 2013 still be New if it has never been bought or taken off the lot? I did a car dealership phone shop for a new car. I was told the new cars were 13 and 14's. So, the salesman gave me the best information on a new 13 and a new 14 since they are both literally considered new!

Personally, if you have time, I would suggest contacting the scheduler and ask if you can use a new 13 or if it must be a new 14. He said they were just getting the new 14's in. This dealer only had 3 of the new 2014 cars in.

incognito, I had asked the scheduler what was meant by new and she told me I needed to shop for a 2014 model. This dealership had quite a few to choose from. I also got information on a 2013. I am just afraid of what they will say because I forgot the darned restroom.

I've done this shop a few times, and also forgot the restroom. I mentioned it to the scheduler, and he said it wasn't that big of a deal. He told me to write that I did not have an opportunity to visit the restroom. I made sure I gave extra detail on how clean the beverage area was.
Sasukhram, you sound like a wonderfully thorough shopper who will write up a wonderful report!

I did several Nissan shops and found the "doofus with the teleprompter" one to be easier. They don't pay well around here but it was a good experience b/c I just bought a new car. Not a Nissan. So now I have been thinking about what a PITA it will be for my future car shops when I show up in a 2014 car. (Not the worse problem to have, I realize.) I guess I will just say that I am shopping for a second car for the family but there goes my (pretend) negotiation leverage.

I traded in my minivan for a small car with good gas mileage that is good on snow. This was so I could really start shopping in earnest. Plus I recently got a smartphone. So now I better get going and sign up for shops.
Aw, thanks Pony123lucy! :-) I always drive my minivan since it is older. I don't want to drive into a dealership with hubby's 2012 car! Enjoy the smartphone. It will make it easier to respond to emails while on the road in between shops. ;-)
I noticed non driving car shops for one price and driving car shops for another. I have never seen a car shop without a test drive! Is this new?

Do the shops require you to get a trade-in offer, as a rule? I have a new car, but when I bought it, I parked my old car, (and I mean OLD) across the street and walked into the dealership. I thought they'd take me more seriously if they didn't see what I was driving. So, if you don't have to talk about a trade in, maybe you could hide the car.

Yes, my scheduler said the same thing. I gave tons of details on the rest of the shop so that hopefully will balance the restroom thing out.
I really enjoy new car assignments because I love cars. But one company takes the love out of exploration and the money out of my pocket to the extent of a zero balance after time spent on the lot, time spent on repetitive data input (and now, apparently a video) and time spent with over zealous editors.
