I received an urgent email late today asking me to fill in for another shopper who "flaked" (for lack of a better term) due to severe inclement weather. The shop was almost next door to my home, and the MSC had already asked me to be the back up, so I was mentally prepared.
This was a video shop and there would be almost a 100% bonus attached due to the short notice. Of course, I said yes.
I have never performed a video shop and although I had taken training, that was almost 7 months ago...
So after my day job ended, I met the owner of the small, local MSC (fantastic to work with), and he handed me the equipment and gave me a 5 minute review parked by the side of the road. I took everything home, tried it and within 30 minutes was out the door to the showhome.
I was quite nervous because I've never tried this stuff for real; how to properly attach it and aim it, etc. But here I was walking up to a show home hoping it will all work.
We went through the process and the salesperson was fantastic, which made it easier for me, and voila, I was done. I went home and did a quick review of the video, which the audio worked great, but the centering of the subject was weak. I guess the camera was flopping around a little.
However, talking to the MSC, the most important part was getting the audio, and that was perfect, so he was happy.
In the end, it looks like the video is good, I learned a lot about how to attach the PV-500 to my shirt and I am much more prepared for my next video.
Assuming the MSC likes what I'e done, I have more shops on routes waiting for me. Oh happy day, because I've wanted to do video shops.!!
