Excited about taking a video shopping class..

I'm finally taking a chance and taking a video shopping class next week. I want to at least find out if it's something I'd like to do. It seems interesting and the next logical step in my career. I just wonder how many jobs are actually out there?

If you do a search on this Forum for video shopping, I think you'll get a good feel for what all is out there. I see them on several boards and in email offers on a weekly basis.

Oh, and good luck with the class. Hope you enjoy the experience.

Good luck. Like any other sort of MSing, it takes doing a few lower end shops (mostly apartments) before you really begin to see the higher paid, higher skill level shop opportunities.

How does one find these classes, or do you just sign up with the company and they sign you up for training and tell you where and when?

I would also like to know where I could find a video shopping class in or near Virginia. I did my first video shop for an apartment complex, with the Shopping company's equipment. Everything went swimmingly! Have a great Tuesday! Anne
For announcements about video training, you can search "video" for "last 90 days" on these forums, or go to the Video Shopping Network (VSN) site and see the thread there. [www.videoshoppingnetwork.org]

Finally, video workshops are also offered in conjunction with almost every IMSC conference. The next on is in July in New Orleans.

I am getting the Certification tomorrow! I can't wait!

Just lost trying to find a fire pit in a concrete jungle wishing it was a wooded glen...

if it wasn't for bad luck, I would have no luck at all
For some reason I thought you were already certified.

bgriffin was that too me? I had this planned since March and nothing was going to stop my attendance. Although I had many hurtles along the way. Darn truck is still grinding down the truck!

Many video shops have a long rotation, so factor that in. That is, you can't take the same shops every month. Sometimes you can't shop the place ever again.

You were in my class?
I saw the notice for the class in several spots. It was Video Shopping Pros that did the class in NJ

How would you rate the usefulness of the class?

Well, parts of it was not useful to me at this point in time. The entire morning was spent discussing new home shops which I have never done. I don't live in an area where there is a lot of new homes. I'm game for traveling but I didn't think that was the only kind of shop available. And I did some apartment shops early in my career that I did not enjoy. I understand the two presenters' backgrounds are route shoppers doing new homes so that's what they were talking about. I keep being told there are other kinds of shops out there and the field is expanding rapidly. Those "other shops" are what I'm interested in doing. Unfortunately, the other participants of the class felt a need to share their own experiences which used up a lot of time. We didn't get down to the nuts and bolts of actually putting the camera on and doing something until after lunch. There was only one camera per group so we took turns trying on a shirt, putting on the camera, and learning about angles. I would have enjoyed doing more of that and less talking. I know more about the subject than I did before the class. Whether it was worth my time and money will be decided down the road. I have not purchased equipment yet unlike several other class participants. I would say at least three class participants were already experienced video shoppers and I'm not sure why they took the class. I enjoyed listening to the two people giving the workshop if nothing else. They said they were passing our names along to video shopping companies.

In my experience the major ity of video shops at this time fall into four categories: in no particular order: apartments, new homes, automobile sales and service, and assisted living.

You will have to travel to make good money at video shopping. The growth area appears to be in retail, including fast food. Those long interactions will make you too memorable to return to the site as long as the target, or any staff who saw you there, are working.

I was gone for a good part of last November and December doing new car shops and service shops. I kept thinking there had to be a better way of doing shops and earning money. I don't mind traveling and I understand that part of it.
As far as taking the class, I didn't see much of a choice. I wanted to gather more information before I spent a lot of money on equipment. That was the only class I have seen advertised.
Since I am 60 years old, I see a lot of possibilities in both assisted living and independent senior living shops. But then again, something entirely different might occur.
Just as an addendum, if anyone who attended the class is on the forum, could you PM me? Several other attendees have contacted me through the list of attendees that one woman wrote up and distributed. They had the same concerns I had plus a few that I won't post publicly. They would like to contact the others who attended the class. TIA
