cell phones to do shop

Cell phones are good now. They are mini computers. You can input your shops on them now. I like cell phones.

That is terrible! If anyone deserves a vacation, it is you. Hotels have business centers with computers; even if you are not staying there you can buy time for a nominal fee. The Sheraton comes to mind. Too bad internet cafes are a thing of the past in the U.S.
Gypsy - Not sure where you are located in your travels, but I have seen electronic repair shops paying only $10 but reimbursing up to $65. Both of your repairs would qualify.
How did they take your truck? You left the keys
in it?

Yep, libraries close most weekends and especially holidays. You can't upload in them as it is against the rules. Even college libraries would be closed on Memorial Day. Hotel would have been my best guess.

My husband said you must drive a Toyota and someone died in the hotel bed and they didn't change the mattress. Toyotas are the most stolen vehicle outside of Texas.

You definitely deserve a hug. I'm glad your pups are safe.,
The Today Show just had a news brief on the top stolen cars in the US.

The Honda Accord is a favorite among car thieves, leading a list of the 10 most stolen and recovered vehicles for 2013. Right behind the Accord is the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Silverado, according to a list released by LoJack Corp. The list is based on thefts of cars equipped with LoJack recovery systems.

It's the fifth year in a row the Accord has topped LoJack's list.

Yikes! I drive a Honda Accord, and once my Honda Civic was stolen. It was later recovered but had been involved in a police shoot-out and was totaled.

Doesn't make sense to me. Why would the police not want
you there after all that you just went through. And insurance
will cover it since it was stolen for whatever the value
is. Hotwiring a car by breaking where the key goes just
to take it on a joyride? Did you press charges?

Wouldn't the police there know your car was stolen?
If it was stolen in a different town it would of been
easily verifiable by them. When I had family that
broke down in a small town in the Carolina's a few
years ago they had to stick around for several days
while the only mechanic fixed the car. The whole town
of course knew about it and with dogs and all, were
all very nice and helpful. And being from NYC metro
area, New Yorker's are not well liked in many of
these small town deep south communities...they
still were respectful.

What did you do with your truck? Did the insurance company actually total it?

That sucks but hardly sounds like it's totaled. Were you able to get it to a shop or did the police dept tow it in?

Why hasn't the insurance company given you a rental until
it is either fixed or until they figure out if they want to total it?

What do you mean prove it is your vehicle? 300 tow fee? In what state?
That makes no sense and is illegal. If documentation proving it is yours
is in the vehicle then they have to obtain it. You could also easily login
to the dmv website and it wil match the vin number on the vehicle.

I agree 110% with what techman just said. Your insurance company should definitely give you a rental. I also don't understand why you have to prove the vehicle is yours? I mean is it not registered in your name? $300 tow fee seems high, and I didn't realize most police depts. charged that for a stolen vehicle, but I guess they could. Were they at least able to find out who stole it?

gypsy, you may need legal representation to get this moving. Maybe retain an attorney, or contact legal aid?

What an ordealsad smiley
Uhhh, where I live you get a rental if you have paid for rental insurance. The car owner has to have the insurance unless the other person, who stole the truck, is at fault then their insurance would cover the rental. People who steal trucks rarely step up, raise their hand, and offer to pay the bill or tell you which insurance company they have. So, in this situation I doubt the insurance co would pay for a rental.
Gypsy, I feel for you. It is pretty easy to go from having what you need to not! Many of us are just one step away from this. I can imagine that having dogs with you makes this a harder situation to get through in practical terms but at least they will be a comfort to you.
And I totally get the added frustration with the $2,000 you recently spent on the truck. My husband's car got totalled right after he spent a lot of money on his car and did not get reimbursed at all for any of it.
Gypsy,

You must, of course, have a license that shows your address. Do you carry a copy of your registration with you. This alone would prove that the truck is yours and you are not a vagrant. Techman and Bgriffin make good points. Does your insurance company provide for a rental? It shoul be standard coverage.
