Comcast Shops, good or bad?

I was wondering if anyone has done these for <oops! a particular MSC>. Are the narratives long?
I don't want to get one and then stuck with a 2 hour survey.

you have to remember alot of stuff and must have an
address in a comcast service area even if you are doing
the non-customer scenario

And too add, I wouldn't do them for less than 32 each
but that is me.

I have done these. The tricky part is that their computer system knows every address in the United States at which they CAN offer service. So, you can't make up an address. I pick an address in their service area, and tell them that I am in the process of buying the house, and that closing is a few months away. They sometimes tell me that they currently offer service there, other times they tell me that they can offer service there. Other than that quirk (which is not explicitly stated in the shop instructions), the assignments are reasonable. They are easier to write up than is typical for this MSC.

I did one and it was okay. The crappy part was waiting for over an hour to be helped. Our location is always packed.

I have done two and will be doing two more tomorrow. My assignments have been Comcast service centers (as opposed to Comcast retail centers.) I do not like the fact that the customer service associate needs to "sell" me on X1 while there is a line of 12 customers behind me. These Comcast service associates are over worked as it is, and their specialty is CUSTOMER SERVICE, not sales. That said, I have been impressed with the two Comcast associates I have evaluated. The environment of the service centers is completely different than the retail stores.
That said, techman is right: really know the X1 operating system before you go in so you can properly evaluate the associate, it will make your report much easier if you understand the terminology. Other than that, the report is easy-just one narrative.
So I caved everyone when I saw the huge bonus offered for my closest location. I will be doing one tomorrow. It is well worth the pay

I have done a few and generally they are fine and fairly quick to do. There are some confusing questions, but once you have a few under your belt, the go really fast.

I always use the scenario, my wife has me on a honey do assignment we are moving into town in about 2 weeks. I need some help, services offered, internet, tv, phone and X1.... I don't have the address, she has been taking care of that, but its on x street.....

Playing the dumb husband works really well and you would not believe how much they bend over backwards to help.....

Yes they can bonus really well at the end of the month.....
You do realize that you need to have an actual service address in order to complete the shop correctly.

There are few of these-- one is to ask about the service on a phone and the guidelines are so managled that the associates would never spontanously suggest Comcast.

The customer service center one had two scenarios--20 minutes and 45 minutes. I was helped at 43 minutes...

What if you use the address of an apartment building? Would that work? It's an actual address, but I'd hope that they wouldn't need to know the exact apartment number. And, if I'm moving in next week, I think it's reasonable that I wouldn't even remember the exact number, offhand.
I don't know if you need the apt number but most likely. They need to be able to pull up the address in order to tell you what is available and they will not try to close if they aren't able to sign you up right then.

You need to have an exact, real address. If it is an apartment building, you need the apartment number. Every service address in the United States is listed in their system and is assigned a unique code. They know if they can serve it, whether it is currently served by Comcast, when it was last served by Comcast. If you are moving into a new apartment next week, you would certainly already know the apartment number! You would have been using your new address to change addresses everywhere, and to set up or inquire about all sorts of things.

I write it all down on an index card and tell them that I found that I kept forgetting the zip code and decided it was better to be safe than sorry. If you pick a move-in date only a week out, they will want to schedule an installation date. That is very tight timing.

for an address somewhere other than my town I just look up an address online of a house in city limits for sale and say I am about to close on it.
Okay, so I did one of the Comcast shops and it really wasn't so bad. It didn't have long narratives that were needed and the survey was multiple choice. If the pay is high I would do one again. Like the other shopper said, I agree not to do it for less than $32.

Someone picked up one here in S.E Georgia for a $95.00 bonus. I just don't like the scenario, having to come up with an address out of town. But...
Look for a house for sale... works every time.... just google a realtor in that city.

Zillow.com is a great resource. Pop in the zip and will give you a map with properties listed along with whether they are for sale or are foreclosures.

To RobG,

I think that was me! There were two of them....What part of SE Georgia are you in?
By the way, I don't think I will be paid for it as the store decided to close down for 2 days without notice. Just left a note on the door. It was a 2 hour drive for nada.....I still did the survey, but who knows....lol
I have done 3 now - all with bonus: shop 1 $29, Shop 2 $55 and shop 3 $20. The $20 shop was a mile away from my home, the other 2 were 1.5 hours away. Still well worth the drive. Short report. Love these shops. Just wait till they are with bonus!
I received $55 for one Comcast Service Center shop. It was 1.5 hours away which I added more shops along the way. Well worth the drive!
The ones I did had 3 choices: I could be a customer and want to pay my bill; I could just want to exchange equipment or add service; and non-customer wanting to check out their services. For the one near my home I asked about adding service, for the one 1.5 hours away I asked for information and prices because I was moving into the area the following month.
