What Pizza Chain Is Your Fave?

I see all these posts regarding the Papa John's pizza shops ragging on the poor quality of the pizza. Amongst the national brands that offer delivery in my area Papa John's has the best quality, selection, value, taste and customer service.

Mystery shopping aside, where do you go for pizza for each of the following types of shops? My choices are listed below:

(a) dine-in Stevi B's
(b) pick-up Jet's
(c) delivery Papa Johns

Dine-in: Right now, a regional (at least I think it is) chain called 'The Rock'. Also, a very local chain called Padington's. But there's some independents I haven't tried. smiling smiley

Carry-out, same as Delivery: Pizza-Hut. And has to be pan-crust.

But Papa Murphy's (take-and-bake) and a local chain version of them, Figaro's, are right up there for carry-out, too.

However, around here, Papa John's is pretty darn good, and sometimes have really good online specials. I've gotten a 'dud' from them once or twice, but usually they're really good. Also, around here, Little Ceasar's is pretty good. Well, two of the three in-town locations are, anyway. The third, I don't know what the hell they're doing. :/

I don't understand all the disparaging comments about Papa John's either. Around here, it's much better than most of the other chains. I'm not sure if it's a regional thing or if my family just has really bad taste. My favorite pizza chain is Round Table, though. The best local joint is called Sputino's Pizzeria, referred to by many as The Pizza Nazi.

To me there are 4 national chains, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Little Caesar's. I rank them in that order. Papa John's has the best tasting pizza followed closely by Pizza Hut. Domino's is not very good at all and Little Caesar's is barely edible. This is only a comparison between the national brands though. Obviously I good local pizza place or even a regional chain will have a better pizza normally.

The local Papa Johns is so bad I won't do those shops anymore. I agree with bgriffin about Little Caeser's being barely edible.

When I'm on the road and crave pizza, I try to always get Pizza Hut. If not them then Domino's. While I'm sure there are local places that are better, I know there are also local places that are worse, so I go for a chain knowing I'll get something that resembles a pizza and should be edible.

Mom's side of the family was FBI--Full Blooded Italian. Nothing from a restaurant comes close to homemade pizza.

My favorite pizza place though, is Homeslice in Austin. I'm sure AustinMom will back me up on it's deliciousness.

'Pizza chains' and 'best' in the same sentence with the latter modifying the former? I find that an oxymoron of zenithal proportions because of at least local 10 pizza places that have better than any of the chains mentioned here so far.

Pizza Pie-er, Bob and Timmy's Casertas, Tommy's, Vasillios, Sal's, Fellini's, Campus (RIPsad smiley), Minerva, Al Forno, Famous Pizza are just a few. Damn, that's a lot of pizza over the years that went to my waistline. smiling smiley

PS: Pizzeria Uno's gets my vote for best of the national chains.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
Pizzeria Uno has locations in 25 states. That's half. I wouldn't call that national.
Also, the thread is not about local vs chains, it's simply national chain vs national chain.
It's like saying which fast food burger is the best and somebody replying that fast food burgers can't compare to a good local place. No @#$%&, we know that, that's not the discussion.

Uno is my favorite, but the closest one to me is Orlando. I wish they would go national.
None of the "Big Four (Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, Little Caesar's) are all that great. Almost every city has dozens of local spots that are much better. If forced at gunpoint, I'd probably choose Pizza Hut. But I'd never eat any of the big chains unless someone is paying me.

Only 25 states? I did not know that.

You are right that the thread is about national chains. I guess my initial point in response was that national chains aren't good enough to deserve a discussion about best pizza considering what I have to choose from in my area. I hope you have a similar situation.

PS: Upon further thought California Pizza Kitchen with locations in more than 30 states gets my vote over Uno's and if considered national I would reverse the above opinion about no national chain being deserving of such a discussion. I initially forgot about it as the closest one to me is 33 miles as the crow flies. I'd go there more often if they were closer. Sorry, they don't deliver.

Just call me a pizza snob. smiling smiley

I like Pizza Hut, thin crust please. Although after I eat a couple of slices I crave water, lots and lots of water. It doesn't taste salty to me but it is absolutely loaded with sodium. And fat. mmmm.....greasy pizza...mmmm

Around here we also have Pizza Patron. I like it but like Pizza Hut better. The only time I've ever eaten Dominos was for shops. Ew. Just ew.
I totally forgot about Round Table... I haven't eaten there in a long time, because they're fairly spendy, but the last time I did it was really good. There used to only be one in Portland (OR) and Mom & Dad would take me there after my appointments at the Shriner's Hospital up there. I went there from age 10 or so up til I was 19. Now there's one in town, but I can't afford it! smiling smiley

Also, there's a chain that I believe is only regional (but not 100% sure) called Pietros. It is really, really good, too; but also spendy. It's always been just down the street and around the corner. Sometimes I'll get a b-day pizza there with a coupon. smiling smiley

Being a native New Yorker is a blessing and a curse. You pretty much can't go wrong with any hole in the wall pizza joint in the city, but any of the chains are just absolutely ghastly compared to what you're used to. I had an internship at a company in california during college and I started going into pizza withdrawal after a few weeks.

PS: Chicago, the stuff you eat isn't pizza. Sorry. It's a pie with tomatoes and cheese but it ain't pizza.
I would vote for any pizza from NYC too but unfortunately they do not deliver to California.
I'm partial to Domino's, the first store was opened in the town where I went to college, in the golden days. Although, I think the recipe has really changed since then. My second choice is Pizza Hut. When I lived in Chicago it was inverted pizza from Pizzeria Uno. Any pizza (and by the slice) is good in NY.
I kind of consider myself a pizza connoisseur. National if we consider it national I would say UNO's. Round Table is crap. Papa Johns is dough not pizza and is lower than crap. Both Dominos and Pizza Hut are edible. I prefer Dominos over Pizza Hut but you can eat a whole large and not be filled. California Pizza Kitchen is edible but not good. Now I live in Buffalo NY where even local places come and go so fast your head would spin. There are a handful of mainstays. I like Chicago deep dish for a meal. I like NY style for a snack. Now a side note Pizza hut specifically created a different sauce for Buffalo, NY only used here and not in the rest of the country. Why when they initally came people tried their pizza hated the sauce and refused to go. By the way on my 5 point scale with 5 being the best out of hundreds of local places two were best at 4.5. National places so you know
Papa Johns .6
Little Ceasars 2.1
Round Table 2.7
Pizza Hut (non-buffalo) 2.9
Pizza Hut (buffalo) 3.0
Dominos 3.1
Unos 3.35
