Has anyone done the "Aveda" Beauty Shop?

I was wondering if anyone ever did the Aveda Beauty Shop? They sell hair-care products, skin and makeup. Kind of like Merle Norman where they sell the same.

If you have done this shop Aveda, how was it? Could you find a product for $25?

I did one a couple of years ago. You can definitely find items < $25, but you will likely be tempted to spend more, because the cheaper items will be small! I think I bought a decent size bottle of hair serum for $29, plus I got a very relaxing complimentary mini-treatment (I think it was a scalp and shoulder massage) while in the store. I'm not sure if it's still shopped with the same MSC. It used to be with one of the giants, but I have not seen it on their board in a very long time.

I did them several years ago. If I remember correctly they required me to spend no less than $30 I bought some kind of hair conditioner that had clay in it and had the worst smell. I couldn't wait to use it up.
I LOVE these shops and MISS them terribly. I usually get the $32 bottle of shampoo that lasts forever, literally...years. I have also purchased gift sets (usually $15 or $20) and then some of the small bottles of rosemary mint shampoo. I think they are $4. I usually spend $30-$32 and reimbursed $25.

They also have a really good shampoo for your hair after you swim. It smells really good too. I think it is $26.
I've done them and they were on the boards of the giant MSC in my area in June.

You can find something for under $25. The 8 oz bottles of Shampure shampoo and conditioner are about $13.50 each, the other lines cost more. I don't really like the Aveda scents but some people love them. The Rosemary Mint line smells pretty good but it is very astringent, stay away from it unless you have very coarse hair.

The styling products are just ok. Aveda hasn't updated their products in years so there are definitely better options out there but if you can get it free or almost free they're ok.

You are supposed to get a "moment of wellness" at any Aveda concept store - a cup of tea, a hand massage, or a chakra sensory journey. That can be nice. One time I had an associate plunk me down in a chair and proceed to spray 3-4 products in my hair and then try to style it. I walked out of there looking like I'd fallen into a wind tunnel or something. LOL
The Pure Abundance volumizing shampoo is fantastic. The scent is fresh and botanical.

One of the big MSC offers these shops in my area almost every month. My 20 year old daughter usually "borrows" whatever I bring home.
I did a few of those shops a few year's ago. I have not seen any of them around for a long time. Do you mind telling me in a pm who the company is. It is difficult to find any product for $25, but you will have to spend more; the products are great.
I love them and their products. The first one I did, I came home and told my friends, "I can't believe I spent $26.00 for can of hair spray." But I loved it, it lasted forever, and I haven't bought anything else since.
We're not allowed to name msc, but it is a large company. Their hand cream is awesome and it lasts forever. I think it's $23.

Sorry Kitty, but I am not allowed to divulge the name of the Mystery Shopping Company smiling smiley
aren't they a massage brand?

They are still with the giant msc. I've been doing them monthly for the last two years. It is impossible to be within $25, because if it's under, you have to buy something else. I think that's the reason a lot of shopper will not take the shop. My average bill there is around $30. For those who doesn't like their herbal scent, the Sun Care Cleanse, which is a combination of shampoo and body wash, is citrusy and pleasant, not mediciny. I just saw one posted for end of July/August.

I was thinking bringing $32 that way it should cover an item(s) and tax smiling smiley

From the instructions, it says they offer aroma therapy, massage, maybe a facial type service, and we are to accept if offered any of these, (other services but I can't remember without pulling the guidelines) if asked. smiling smiley
The massage, if offered, would be a hand massage. If they offer the calming tea do try some. Most people love it, it has licorice root that gives it a distinctive taste. If you like it a tin of tea bags would be around $17 and you could add on a bottle of Peppymint (breath drops) to get you to $25.50 plus tax.

I hope you find something you really like; a lot of people love Aveda products. Something I thought I'd mention is be careful if you have any known allergies and if you do read the ingredient labels. Aveda products are 97% plant and flower derived and some people have allergic reactions to them because of that.
I love the Aveda hand treatment lotion! I would jump at the chance to do an Aveda shop. Aveda started as a product company and has their own beauty school. If you go to an Aveda Salon for hair cuts, they generally do an amazing scalp massage so that could be one of the offered massages grinning smiley. While their products are on the spendy side, you can easily find items in the $25 range.
The only products I have put in my hair for the past 25 years has been Aveda. I am a hard core Aveda junkie!! I love these shops and grab them as soon as I see them. It's an easy shop and I'm going to buy the stuff anyways, so I appreciate the $25 reimbursement. Plus you can still use your Pure Privilege membership (I asked the MSC) so that helps too.

I also love them. The service is usually A-1 and I enjoy their products and the knowledge the salespeople share about them. I usually get a conditioner and a small travel size hand cream or shampoo to make the $25-$30 requirement. Their hand cream is wonderful and I like the Damage Remedy line of products also. I recently used their Dry Remedy (or something like that) and loved the scent. It comes in a blue tube. I have one to do end of month so I'll get more of it since I used it all up. They are bonused once in a while too.

I love these shops, too! Like everyone has said, you do have to spend at least $25. So it's not a shop that you'll be making money on. But I try to lump it in with a couple of other mall shops to make the trip worth it.

I find it so relaxing to go and get the treatment and it's nice to get an almost free higher end item that I wouldn't want to pay for myself.

I do them whenever I can!
Never mind, different shop than I was thinking of.

Time to build a bigger bridge.

Oh, I love Aveda Skin care stuff. I would LOVE to find this shop, but I've never seen it.
I need a moisturizing shampoo or conditioner. My hair is dry on the ends. Hopefully I can find a set for $25smiling smiley

And thanks for all the great responses! You guys rocksmiling smiley
I started out many years ago when they were with a smaller msc and did them as often as I could. I even joined their club for a fee. I am and have been addicted to the brand as in all my many years of life and trying all sorts of other brands of shampoo recommened to me by friends, Aveda is the first brand I found that actually works on my hair. I use the Be Curly line and the repair line (cant remember what it is called right now)...since they switched msc I have only seen a job once in three years when I was elsewhere on vacation. I am holding out hope though as I finally after 3 years saw a listing for the other client I liked at the company that was swallowed up. If you have dry, frizzy curly hair try their line.
Now I shop fee jobs elsewhere in order to not feel horrible about paying $30 for a small bottle of shampoo. I recently started a wonderful and expensive soap from Aveda...they no longer make it but it is fabulous.
For those of you lucky enough to find their jobs, spend the $ for the membership in their club. I get free perfume ($20 value according to them) twice every year and quite often a free full sized either hand of foot cream....both of which are small but generally cost around $8-11. I never have to purchase their lotions as i get them free so often.
sunny Days..
To get a set you will need several shops as each bottle is around $25 or more. The store will tell you that you need to purchase the entire line but I found the Repair line to be best for my hair (there are 3 separate lines that add moisture and that is the one I like best). The moisture from the repair line helps my curls curl too...so I only use the daily curl stuff once in a while when it is particularly humid out. I used to have a bad hair day every day until I found Aveda. I only use the shampoo and conditioner and on another shop you can get the daily one to use in between shampoos if you need it.
I sound like a commercial for them don't I? My mom used to always comment to me...can't you do anything with your hair? I wish she was still around so I could show her I finally figured out my hair! Then I could stop telling her my hair was her fault for the hair genes she passed on to me.

Great idea! smiling smiley Get the shampoo now and wait for the next Aveda shop to get the conditioner.

You might like the Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil. You put 1-2 drops in your palm, rub palms together to emulsify, and apply to half your hair starting at the ends and work your way up. Do the same for the other side.

Aveda reworked the Dry Remedy line earlier this year and the dry drops were a new addition to the line.

One of the questions is, if the purchase relates to your scenario. Considering it's a hair scenario, how do you get away with purchasing tea?

Unless they grab you the second you walk in the door, I just walk over and pick up what I really want to buy, then browse the hair section. When someone comes over, I describe a problem that doesn't need an immediate fix. I never tell them that I have a ton of dandruff.

The big problem with this shop is that after doing a few at the same place, they are bound to start recognizing you, because you really need to engage with them. When that started happening, I'd say, Yeah, I'm using XXX that you recommended but it's not helping with YYY problem. Or With the weather change, ZZZ started happening.
