I guess the solution is to use a false name for all of your regular day to day stuff. That way, the name on your ID is almost as good as an assumed alias.
Seriously, My initials are, surprisingly enough, J.T. I have gone by the "T" name since I was born, so I have no problem handing someone an ID. It shows the "J" name.
It's as good as an alias, and almost like having a fake ID. :-)
