What's the best way to see if things have changed?

I am getting ready to eat some humble pie to go back to a company I used to mystery shop for. To a degree I am glad I found an old e-mail from about 3 years ago which documented the problems I had with them.

What's the best way to see if things have changed on their end? Since they wanted reports written in French, and I am an Anglophone in Québec.

Unless you've learned French in the meantime, why would you want to go back? Or is that the question, to find out if they still require French?

Have you tried online translators?

Time to build a bigger bridge.
I hate translators since they do lose details in translations.

All I want to do is find out if they still require reports be written in French. I can speak it, I can read it (for the most part), I just don't have much of a need to write it.
So what did you decide to do, OldDog? Call them, email them, re-register with them or nothing? Just wondering...

I ate my humble pie, I reregistered. So far everything is the same as three years ago (hence why I left), I am confirming with them over the long weekend. If they insist on posting details, getting reports, and so forth in French. It's not worth it for me to work for them.
Pretty simple sounding to me, not sure why you even did a first shop to tell the truth, is there any kind of software like dragonspeak that works with French, or is it the grammar part that messes you up, if you really want to do the shops then find someone who can transcribe your recorded shop information.

I don't bother with shops for a lot less than not knowing the native language.

Komondor this unnamed company used to be solely done in English, but someone complained so now more and more companies want the reports in French. I can't do reports in French so why being signed up with a company if I can't do the reports in the language they want.
There are tons of other companies out there, OldDog. Might as well let sleeping dogs lie (pun intended) or use the Translation section of dictionary.com.
OldDog, come on, there are so many other really great options and great MSCs, so please don't get discouraged. Where are you? Give us an idea and maybe other members can/will suggest companies to you.

I get what you're saying, OldDog. I am originally from Montreal and I bet the l'office de la langue francais had a lot to do with that, which is a bloody shame. There are other companies that might be better suited for you. I'd choose American ones. I believe the 'law' doesn't apply to them because you're reporting your shops online to their head office which is in America. Good luck. smiling smiley

Canuck is dead on the money. I am near Montreal, QC. I have no use for the OQLF, god help me the day they decide they need to force Independent Contractors like us to operate in French. The reason why I got into this line of work is because of my inability to communicate in French. It's gotten better over the years to the point where I can speak it, I can read it, but I can't write it still.

As far as I am concerned if the client wants reports in French, that is their business, but I am not going to keep an open profile with companies who have jobs I can't do.
