AAKKKK! I filled my gas tank

Couponning queen does it again. Did the happy dance on how cheap I could purchase my gasoline after discounts and filled my tank. No audits today!

Everyone must also fill their tanks on Friday... Contacted three friends and tanks all full! Sad when you cannot give away 14 gallons of gas.

I have a route of gas station shops coming up next week. It looks like at several of the stations I'll be having to ask people to let me buy them $6.00 in gas, simply because my vehicle gets too good mileage. I could spread the shops out over a couple of more weeks, but I would like to get them all done in October so I'll be paid for them, plus the bonus, in November.

I believe that you are not allowed to fill a gas container, right? I read that somewhere here.
I would like to know that too, Canuck. There are shops here where you buy one gallon of gas. Well, here in Oregon it's illegal to pump your own gas. I can't see pulling up to the pump, handing the guy my card and saying, "one gallon of gas, please". I could see someone asking for $5 or even $3 if that's all the cash they have, but who would ask for one gallon? The only way that would work is if it was for a 1 gallon gas can.

That is correct, at least for the shops I have done. Containers cannot be used.

I could see asking for a dollar amount of gas that would be just over one gallon, and I don't think you would be penalized for going over one gallon. I do agree though that it does tend to scream "mystery shopper". At the same time, I also see the MSC point of view when it comes to reimbursing for the gas. It's a balancing act.

Does it really? More pros to add to my list. We are considering a move to Oregon.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
When I was in New Jersey; most stations would pump your gas, but some had a self service pump and you could pump your own. That was a decade ago when the family was visiting the inlaws.
You'll love Oregon and indeed the entire PNW, BBird. I've found it kind of refreshing to have someone else fill up the gas tank, wash my windshield and send me on my way.
NJ is one of those states where you can not pump your own. Plus the prices are the cheapest around - lower state taxes. I used to enjoy having someone else pump my gas at low prices and clean my windows as well (at least on the tpke or pkwy) when I traveled NJ. There are some sections of NY that are full serve, usually at higher prices, and when I first started shopping them I felt awkward buying just $5.00 worth of gas on a credit card. It's someting I would not due under normal circumstances. However I've gotten over that.

I do travel with a couple of gas cans bungeed in the back of my SUV and have no problem filling them. No law against it so long as you don't stow them unsecured or in the trunk.
LIJake, putting gas into approved containers on shops may not violate the law, but it does violate the instructions of [most of] the shops.

JB - you could be right. I will re-read the shop instructions and get back to you. thanks.
JB - I just re-read the project details and I see no restrictions on where the gas has to be pumped. Are we talking about the same client - Pegasus? Thanks

If your tank is full, you could move the gas yourself after the shop to an approved gas can with a simple $6 hose. But I'd rather hear about you trying it with a piece of garden hose and starting the flow by sucking on it with your mouth.eye popping smiley

Scanman - what the hell are you talking about?
Siphoning gasoline.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
Lighten up, I was just making light of the situation. If you must put the gas into you gas tank, you could move the gas to a gas can to free up space for the next shop.

Lighten up. I was just posting this in a funny way as I saw it. eye rolling smiley
Sorry if I offended you, as I was not picking on you personally.

I was trying to make a joke.

If I offended you, I am sorry. I do think most reading this post and knowing me will think I was just trying to crack a joke. Don't take what I said personally as I would have said this to anyone here.
I don't get offended easily. I just didn't see the relevance of your comment. But, as you say, I don't know you. No problem here.
To free up space in your gas tank on long gas routes, by putting the gas in your tank into a gas can.

I have a pump action siphon, but the ghetto way is to use a garden hose and suck on it to start the suction.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
I'm a little late getting back to the party since we were without power for 12 hours yesterday. So here I am at 3:30 AM sucking up all the electricity I can.

Working backwards, I didn't realize they made those siphon things. I'm old-school garden hose here.
Sorry your joke backfired, Scanman. Welcome to the club.
Bryan, I don't know about the liberal Utopia, but I can say it's Utopia for moderate me. Did I mention there's no sales tax here?

And here I thought everyone has tasted gas at one point or another. I used the garden hose to get gas for my Yamaha 80 motorcycle as a youngster. Here is the real shocker. They still had *LEADED* gasoline back then. They were still doing the end of the phase out and my parents drove an old car. I must have been spitting lead out of my mouth when I got the gas flowing.
Sorry, but your joke sucked. I gas I will let it go this time, but can you please try and do better next time? Hose monitoring this place anyway?

(Was siphon-ny? Or was I not?)

Scanman, I totally get what you said but it may be because I grew up in New York City where siphoning gas with a hose of some sort and sucking was a regular practice (to be avoided if you wanted to live a long and healthy life). Often these techniques were not used by the owner of the car but some hoodlum trying to gas up his (or her to be politically correct in 2014) car but yes, it was used by owners when you were running out of gas and had access to another car with gas so you could go on your way.
Reasons for you to think about to buy only one gallon of gas which might make you feel better about it: 1.that is all the money you have with you 2.This station is more expensive than your regular place but you are running out and just need enough to get you to the place you usually go to. Personally I have done the latter a few times, not on a shop.
Many of the newer cars can't be siphoned. They have a block in the filler tube about 6-8 inches down to prevent siphoning. I have about 10 shops coming up next week and I estimate that I'll be buying gas for people at 6-7 of them, depending on how much driving I do before I start the route. I did 5 this past week. Left home with 1/4 tank and got home with over 3/4 tank and driving almost 200 miles.
